Salary: $20/hour + depending on experience The Nova Scotia SPCA is seeking a dedicated Store Manager to join our fast-paced, social enterprise thrift store, at our Kings SPCA Thrift Store.
In addition to leading a team and store, this individual will also be the main point of contact for thrift store volunteers, donors and members of the community in respect to the Nova Scotia SPCA Thrift Stores.
Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee, facilitate and ensure the processing of donated items.
- Category and inventory management in adherence to store standards.
- Assignment of day-to-day operational duties to staff and volunteers.
- Promote excellence in the customer service for all visitors to the thrift store through staff & volunteer training.
- Ensuring staff and volunteers are trained on all operational processes and SPCA policies and ensuring adherence to established processes.
- Communicate store results, policy and procedure updates, store standards, and other important information to staff and volunteers.
- Respond to escalated customer service situations with support of Regional Manager where appropriate.
- Ongoing performance management of staff and volunteers.
- Develop and communicate staff schedules, review timesheets, and review leave requests, coordinating with the SPCA Provincial Office for support and adjustments.
- Review and submit various store metrics and reports as required.
- Resource and financial management according to established standards.
- Recruitment, training, and management of Thrift Store Volunteers to support store operations and SPCA initiatives.
- Collaboration and communication with Nova Scotia SPCA Provincial Office for marketing and promotional initiatives as well as for support and information.
- Develop and lead community and store events in collaboration with Regional Manager and Provincial Office.
- Ensure the display of merchandise inside thrift stores enhances the appearance and appeal of the store.
- Provide service to customers meeting the standards and expectations of the Nova Scotia SPCA Thrift Store experience.
- Attend and participate in ad hoc and scheduled meetings.
- Participate in Health and Safety initiatives, including compliance.
Qualifications and Competencies
The successful candidate will need to meet the following qualifications:
- Previous leadership or management experience, with retail leadership experience considered an asset for this position.
- Experience managing people directly, including demonstrated understanding of communication, delegation, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Experience with transaction and cash management, including terminal reconciliation and opening and closing procedures.
- Demonstrated experience using and understanding of Microsoft 365 Program suite, including PowerBI, is a requirement of this position.
- Familiarity with helpdesk ticketing systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, show initiative and creativity, exercise good judgment, and act with tact and courtesy in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/deadlines in a retail environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain neat and accurate records, files and documents related to the work.
- Excellent verbal, telephone, and electronic communication skills when interacting with a wide variety of people within the organization, as well as customers, volunteers and external partners.
- Results driven, solutions-focused, organized, and professional work attitude.
- Flexible and skilled in navigating change.
- Demonstrated track record of working well as a part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 40 pounds regularly.
- Working conditions include working with donated materials which means staff could encounter common allergens such as dust, dirt, mold, and mildew. Applicants should consider if they have any allergy conditions that could be aggravated by increased exposure to common allergens.
Hours of Work
Work responsibilities require a standard 30-40 hours per week.
Shifts will be a mix of weekdays and weekends as required to meet the needs of the business.
