We provide gravel, asphalt, and concrete services to Municipalities, General Contractors, and Developers in our community and surrounding areas.
Job Overview
North West Paving is looking for a dependable and safety-focused Traffic Technician to support roadway and construction projects by installing and maintaining traffic control setups. We are a progressive, growing company that has operated in the Edmonton area for 50 years. We provide gravel, asphalt, and concrete services to Municipalities, General Contractors, and Developers in our community and surrounding areas.
This role is responsible for reading traffic control plans and ensuring proper deployment of traffic control devices to create safe work zones for workers and the public.
The ideal candidate has robust attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work safely around active traffic.
Job Duties:
Drive traffic control truck to multiple sites per day
- Read, interpret, and properly deploy traffic control plans (TCPs) in the field.
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including cones, barricades, signage, and arrow boards.
- Ensure all traffic control setups comply with project specifications and safety regulations.
- Maintain clear and concise daily diary of all daily activities and observations.
- Measure and position traffic control devices according to plan requirements.
- Monitor active work zones and adjust traffic control as required to maintain safety and traffic flow.
- Maintain organized staging and handling of traffic control equipment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members to coordinate safe work zones.
- Load, transport,
and organize traffic control materials and equipment.
Punctuality and reliability are critical due to the safety-sensitive nature of traffic control operations
Requirements:
- Must have a valid class 5 License with a clean driving abstract
- Ability to read, interpret, and accurately implement traffic control plans (TCPs).
- Strong time management and organizational skills to ensure traffic control setups are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Experience setting up lane closures, shoulder closures, and work zones according to approved plans is an asset.
- Ability to work in close proximity to live traffic while maintaining strong situational awareness.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for traffic control setups.
- Must be reliable and able to report to early morning start times as required by project schedules.
Qualified applicants may be asked to review and interpret a sample traffic control plan during the interview process
Preferred Qualifications
- Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Previous experience working in road construction or traffic control.
