Position Title: Waste Management Technician

Length of Contract: Rotation 15 days on/13 days off contract to December 31, 2026, option to convert to salary position thereafter.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, the Waste Management Technician plays a key operational and environmental compliance role at the Minto Mine site. This position is responsible for the safe operation of the site incinerator and vacuum truck, and for ensuring that waste generated across the site is collected, handled, and disposed of in alignment with the site’s permitting and environmental requirements. The role also provides general maintenance support to the Site Services group.

This position is well-suited for individuals who are hands-on, detail-oriented, safety-focused, and adaptable to changing priorities in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Safely operate and maintain the site incinerator in accordance with manufacturer specifications, standard operating procedures, and site permitting and environmental requirements.
- Operate the vacuum (Vac) truck for the collection, transport, and disposal of liquid and solid waste streams across the mine site.
- Collect, sort, and transport general, special, and hazardous waste from work areas, camp, and site facilities to designated storage, treatment, or disposal locations.
- Maintain accurate waste tracking logs, manifests, and disposal records to support environmental permitting compliance and regulatory reporting.
- Monitor waste storage areas, transfer stations, and containment structures, and report or address any deficiencies to maintain compliance with site permits.
- Perform pre-start inspections, daily equipment checks, and routine preventative maintenance on the incinerator, vacuum truck, and other waste-handling equipment.




- Respond promptly to spills or waste-handling incidents in accordance with site emergency response and environmental protocols.
- Support general maintenance activities across the site, including camp infrastructure and site services equipment, as required.
- Assist tradespeople and mechanics with maintenance and repair tasks as required.
- Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard identification.
- Conduct general site clean-up and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Complete assigned tasks and documentation safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisors.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (or equivalent); Class 3 an asset.
- Experience operating a vacuum truck and/or incinerator, or willingness and ability to be trained and certified on site equipment.
- Working knowledge of waste handling and environmental compliance practices, or ability to quickly learn site-specific permitting requirements.
- Physically fit and capable of working 12-hour shifts in a remote environment.
- Ability to lift or carry up to 50lbs as required by the job.
- Excellent awareness of and commitment to safety procedures, including safe handling of waste and hazardous materials.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Comfortable working in adverse weather and in isolated conditions.

Preferred (Assets):

- Demonstrated experience in waste management, environmental services, or utilities operations in a mining, construction, or heavy industrial setting.
- Mine site or camp-based experience.
- WHMIS, TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods), First Aid, or other relevant safety and environmental certifications.




- Incinerator operation and/or vacuum truck operator training or certification.
- General maintenance, mechanical, or trade skills (plumbing, carpentry, or similar) a strong asset.

Pay: $30.00-$32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 84.0 per week
