Position Summary:

FNMI Group Care Ltd. is an Indigenous-based youth care home located in north Edmonton. The Youth Support Worker provides front-line care for youth (under 18 years of age) and through cultural safety and humility will provide daily care, supervision, and meeting the needs of the youth at the residence.

The Youth Support Worker acts as a mentor to the youth and fosters a holistic environment for the youth (emotional, physical, mental and emotional well-being). The Youth Support Worker is expected to have high personal competence and maintaining caring, trusting and skilled relationships. The incumbent must have a strong understanding of Indigenous cultural traditions, particularly with childcare. The Youth Support Worker reports to the Team Lead.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

· Development of a trusting, caring and respectful relationship with youth in care.

· Teaching life and social skills through role modelling of appropriate behaviour.

· Strong understanding of Indigenous teaching methods to share skills with the youth.

· Assist with the development and maintenance of problem-solving skills.

· Activity planning that involves individual/groups that meet the recreational, educational and/or therapeutic needs of the youth.

· Counselling skills that utilize problem-solving, de-escalation, goal-setting, and preventative interventions with youth in care in a 1:1 or group scenario.

· Documentation of daily activities, behaviour plans and progress reports.

· Monthly documentation including service planning and monthly resident calendar.

· Knowledge of Indigenous culture, language, and traditions required.

· Providing youth with a sense of safety, acceptance, and nurturance





· Supporting youth in maintaining connections to their families, home communities, Indigenous culture, ceremonies and identity.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· Human services degree or diploma (and/or competency-based equivalencies).

· Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals that may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values, and alternative lifestyle choices, strong personal boundaries.

· Demonstrates good writing and communication skills.

· Standard First Aid with CPR is required.

· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, beliefs, and traditions.

Work Environment & Scheduling

This is a 24-hour care environment. Shifts include days, evenings, overnights, and weekends. The candidate should be available for casual work as available based on operational needs.
