Assignment: RQ00778 - UX Designer - Senior Requisition: RQ00778 Job Title: UX Designer - Senior Client: City of Toronto Start Date: End Date : Department: Technology Services Office Location: Metro Hall, 55 John Street, Toronto Business Days: 130.00 Location: 3 days onsite Public Sector Experience: Preferred Must Haves: 1. A minimum of seven years of skilled experience in user experience, user interface, interaction, product, or service design, including senior-level responsibility for complex digital products or services. 2. Extensive experience planning and conducting discovery, user research, stakeholder interviews, usability testing, and evidence synthesis, and translating findings into prioritized design recommendations. 3. Extensive experience creating user journeys, task flows, service blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity responsive designs for web and mobile services. 4. Advanced proficiency with Figma, including components, variants, libraries, prototyping, file organization, documentation, and developer handoff. 5. Experience designing and documenting accessible digital experiences in accordance with AODA and the WCAG version and conformance level specified by the City. 6. Experience contributing to, extending, and applying design systems, including reusable components, patterns, tokens, interaction guidance, content guidance, and governance practices. Description The proposed candidate must demonstrate: 1. Extensive experience planning and conducting discovery, user research,
stakeholder interviews, usability testing, and evidence synthesis, and translating findings into prioritized design recommendations. 3. Extensive experience creating user journeys, task flows, service blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity responsive designs for web and mobile services. 4. Advanced proficiency with Figma, including components, variants, libraries, prototyping, file organization, documentation, and developer handoff. 5. Experience contributing to, extending, and applying design systems, including reusable components, patterns, tokens, interaction guidance, content guidance, and governance practices. 7. Experience designing complex public-facing or enterprise digital services, including navigation, search, forms, validation, error handling, empty states, loading states, and other relevant interaction states. 8. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, content specialists, accessibility specialists, developers, product and project leads, business stakeholders, and senior decision-makers. 9. Experience facilitating in-person and remote workshops, design critiques, playback sessions,
and decision-making activities; building consensus; and presenting recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences. 10. Experience preparing implementation-ready specifications, supporting developer handoff, participating in design-quality reviews, and resolving design and accessibility issues during implementation. 11. Strong written, verbal, facilitation, analytical, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills. The Senior UX Designer will perform the following duties, based on priorities established by the designated City authority: Portfolio requirements The proposal must include a portfolio or case studies demonstrating at least three relevant projects. The examples should identify: The candidate's role and responsibilities The project context, users, constraints, and objectives Research and design methods used Key design decisions and supporting evidence Accessibility and inclusive-design considerations Collaboration and implementation approach Measurable outcomes, lessons learned, or resulting improvements The City may request that the candidate present selected case studies during the interview. Experience considered assets The following will be considered assets: Post-secondary education or certification in user experience design, interaction design, service design, human-computer interaction, information architecture, accessibility, or a related discipline. Experience delivering digital services in a municipal, broader public-sector, or regulated environment.
