School District 83, in collaboration with Shuswap North Okanagan Division of Family Practice and CMHA operates a Wellness Centre out of Salmon Arm Secondary School in Salmon Arm and Eagle River Secondary School in Sicamous. The coordinator will work closely with School District No. 83 staff, various specialists, physician groups, health authority and other community partners to develop and coordinate local processes related to the Wellness Centre's mission. The role of the Wellness Centre Coordinator is to support the Wellness Centre Teams in the day-to-day operation of the Centres. This position is an annual contract managed by School District No. 83. As such, the coordinator must follow all School District policies and procedures. The coordinator is directly supervised by the District Vice Principal of Student Wellness.Skills And QualificationsNon-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training and ASIST training (or willingness to train)Ability to work independentlyEffective time management and organizational skillsSuccessful experience and training in working with vulnerable youthEffective oral and written communication skillsKnowledge and ability to develop, maintain and work within a budgetSuccessful experience working collaboratively with caregivers, community partners and educators to support student wellbeingExcellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school staff and community partnersFlexible and adaptable, effective problem-solverSummary Of Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in increasing the number of children, youth and their families receiving timely access to integrated mental health, medical service, substance use services and supports in the Shuswap; Document examples and results of the involvement of children, youth and families in decisions related to Wellness Centre and system design, clinical practice and policy development,
which manifest Family Smart Practice goals; Manage youth driven initiatives ensuring they are fully supported by Wellness Centre Team members and partner organizations; ensure that youthand family engagement is a core component; Ensure the inclusion of Indigenous youth and other diverse populations in program planning and development; Keep all communitypartners and GP's informed about the progress of the Wellness Centre; Demonstrate a collaborative style of engaging children, youth, families and service providers; Maintain accurate and upto date documentation as required by fund holder and community partners; Build and maintainpositive, qualified relationships with school staff, students, service providers and community partners; Assist in the ongoing development of the Wellness Centre's policies and procedures; Write and apply for grants that will assist in the ongoing operation of the Wellness Centre.Support and coordinate Wellness Fairs at other secondary schoolsSupport the development of wellness Centres at other secondary schools within the school district,This position is offered as a temporary contract (Immediately – June 30, 2027) at a rate of $33.86/hr. The contract may be extended, depending on funding availability.The Wellness Centre operates according to the school calendar. Closures include Spring Break, Summer Break, and Winter Break. It is expected that few (if any) hours will be worked by the Wellness Centre Coordinator during these times. Work hours should typically occur when students are in school. There is flexibility in the work schedule but typically work hours will occur from 8:30 a.M. - 2:45 p.M., Tuesday to Thursday.
