Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Recreation Manager, the activity aide creates, plans, implements and evaluates a wide variety of creative therapeutic programs with residents to meet their social, physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual needs. Encourages resident participation in individual and group recreational activities related to their assessed needs, ability and interests.

Typical Duties:

1.Responsible for the day-to-day for the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs such as exercises, crafts and entertainment for the residents in collaboration with the Recreation Manager

2.Ensures that every resident is involved in identified recreational activities in order to meet the goals of the resident's recreational treatment plan. Leads, instructs, and motivates residents in individual and group leisure pursuits.

3.Carries out resident activity programs. Sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for the activity. Teaches techniques of related activities to residents. Oversees residents involved by encouraging participation and reports any problems and/or changes to supervisor.

4.Provides assistance with meal service to residents.

5.Provides guidance to volunteers and demonstrates related techniques as required.

6.Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and identifies supply needs to appropriate staff. Transports a variety of supplies and/or materials as required.

7.Maintains appropriate department records including assessments, care plans, details of participation and attendance level and progress within the recreation program.





8.Effective and professional communication skills with all facility departments, residents, families and volunteers.

9.Reports hazards, unusual occurrences, accidents, and unsafe or faulty equipment/furniture to the Recreation Manager or designate

10.Promotes, monitors, and responds to Resident issues.

11.Coordinates and Porters Residents during Activities and teach them the techniques of the related activity.

12.Attends in-service training and workshops as required by the employer.

13.Supports the NVS Model of Service, Mission, Vision and Values.

Skills and Abilities

- Grade 12 education
- College diploma in Recreation, Leisure studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required
- 2 years experience working in facilities or related experience or an equivalent combination of

education, training and experience.
- An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
- Food Protected Certificate

Qualifications

- Ability to speak, read and understand English fluently
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret resources or documents, transcripts and financial

information
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to physically carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to teach and lead groups
- Ability to organize work
- Physically able to carryout the tasks of the position
- Ability to work independently, as well as with the inter-disciplinary team and volunteers
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
