Job Summary

BLUBC Education Consulting is a growing educational consulting company with opportunities for professional development and career growth. We have two Vancouver locations: one on the UBC campus and another at 2083 Alma Street in Vancouver West.

We are seeking an Academic Coordinator and Student Support team member who is passionate about education, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, and communicates confidently with students, parents, teachers, and education consultants.

This position combines academic coordination, student supervision, course scheduling, and direct academic support. As the staff member on duty, the successful candidate will also assist Grade 9–11 students who attend our learning centres for supervised study and require help with their schoolwork. Candidates with a science-related academic background will be given preference.

Responsibilities and Duties

Academic Support

- Provide academic assistance to individual students and small groups
- Support Grade 9–11 students who attend the learning centre for supervised study
- Answer students’ questions about school assignments and help them understand relevant concepts and problem-solving methods
- Provide general homework support across core secondary school subjects, particularly mathematics and science
- Guide students in developing effective study habits, time-management skills, and assignment-completion plans
- Assist teachers with tutoring, student support, and the preparation or adaptation of teaching materials when required
- Identify questions that require subject-specialist support and coordinate appropriate follow-up with teachers or education consultants
- Encourage students to become more independent, organized, and confident in their learning

Academic Coordination

- Arrange courses and tutoring sessions promptly according to the recommendations of education consultants and the academic needs of students
- Coordinate schedules among students, parents, teachers, and education consultants
- Confirm class arrangements and communicate schedule changes in a timely and professional manner
- Monitor students’ attendance, homework completion, academic progress, and participation
- Follow up with students regarding assigned work, assessments, and academic plans
- Communicate regularly with education consultants and teachers regarding student performance, learning needs, and recommended next steps
- Help ensure that academic services are delivered according to BLUBC’s standards and procedures

Student Records and Progress Monitoring

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, class notes, attendance records, and progress information
- Assist education consultants and teachers in developing strategies to support students’ academic, behavioural, and social development
- Monitor and document student progress toward established goals




- Prepare internal updates and communicate relevant information to the appropriate team members
- Maintain the confidentiality of student and family information

Student Supervision and Centre Operations

- Supervise students studying independently at the learning centre
- Maintain a safe, respectful, organized, and academically focused learning environment
- Monitor student conduct and respond calmly and professionally when support is required
- Serve as the staff member on duty and respond to day-to-day questions from students, parents, and teachers
- Welcome students and families and provide accurate information about schedules, classrooms, and academic arrangements
- Assist with minor first aid and complete required incident or administrative forms when necessary
- Support the daily operation, organization, and readiness of the learning centre

Communication and Student Engagement

- Communicate professionally with students, parents, teachers, education consultants, and other staff members
- Provide clear and detailed information regarding academic arrangements and student progress
- Build positive relationships with students and encourage their cooperation and active participation
- Motivate students to work toward their academic, personal, and behavioural goals
- Respond to questions and concerns with patience, sound judgment, and a student-centred approach

Qualifications and Skills

- A bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Education, or another relevant field is preferred
- Candidates with a strong science or mathematics background will be given priority
- Ability to support Grade 9–11 students with general schoolwork, particularly mathematics and science assignments
- Strong interest in education and working with secondary school students
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Robust spoken and written communication skills
- Fluency in both English and Mandarin
- A calm, patient, responsible, and professional manner
- Ability to create a positive, structured, and welcoming learning environment
- Ability to manage multiple schedules, priorities, and student needs
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the BLUBC team
- Previous experience in education, tutoring, academic coordination, student services, or learning-centre administration is preferred




- Familiarity with the BC secondary school curriculum is an asset

Additional Requirements

- Availability between 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.; specific shifts may vary
- Availability to work at both BLUBC locations as scheduled
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
- Two professional references

- Please provide at least four dates and several time windows when you would be available for an in-person or online interview. Our interviewers are available Monday through Sunday. Please list all availability in Pacific Time.
- A parent has expressed interest in a tutoring program but has not responded after receiving the program information. How would you follow up, and what information would you record for the team?
- BLUBC has two Vancouver locations: one at 2083 Alma Street in Vancouver West and one on the UBC campus. This is a fully in-person position requiring attendance at the office five days per week. Are you able to commute reliably and arrive on time for every scheduled shift?

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Experience:
- academic/education assistant in an educational institution: 1 year (preferred)

Language:
- Mandarin (job requirements) (required)
