MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Agronomist will serve as the Farm Manager who will manage farm operation from crop/land planning, seeding, spraying to harvesting. He/she will contribute to increased sales and profitability, conduct field diagnosis, manage inventory, and manage farming operation's food safety. This position requires extended work hours during the peak seasons.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Establish and manage all resources necessary to successfully conduct farming, equipment maintenance, inventory management and field site selection
- Manage field locations from pre-seeding to post-harvest activities, including site selection, preparation, pest & stress diagnosis and management etc.
- Assist with site development, management and evaluation
- Establish and maintain industry presence and ensure that the company is up to date on current industry activities by participating in meetings and establishing contacts with external parties
- Supervise assigned full time and/or contract employees.
- Manage and implement farming operation's food safety program
- Carry out in-field scouting activities and provide crop production recommendations throughout the growing season.
- Responsible for organizing and completing soil sampling activities in fall and spring.
- Develop fertility recommendations and whole farm crop plans based on soil test results and customer meetings. This includes crop rotation and varietal planning, seeding considerations, and chemical planning.
- Establish and maintain relationships with other farmers and farm customers




- Foster the use of best management practices for growing techniques, for example the practice of growing crops and plants to minimize soil erosion.
- Monitor the effects of soil characteristics, nutrients, water levels, and water drainage on plant growth and implement crop management practices in response to these factors to enhance production.
- Evaluate crop performance as affected by weather, pests, and management practices, and on occasion give evidence for insurance purposes.
- Communicate with the research community to learn of the latest methods for controlling disease, weeds, and insects.
- Researching new technology and recent advancements in agriculture
- Participating on committees for policy development, regulation development, and research and educational program development

QUALIFICATIONS:

- At least 10 years of experience in Agriculture, Farming, Agronomy or related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and motivational skills, accurate record keeping, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
- Must be able to work flexible, extended hours even on weekends and holidays if necessary
- Ability to work outside under various weather & field conditions
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
- Willing to relocate to Bassano, AB (Relocation allowance will not be provided)
