Position Title:Special Programs Instructor for Persons with Exceptionalities – Canada Summer Jobs Program (2 positions)Job Posting Deadline for Internal Candidates:April 30, 2026, at 5:00pmEmployment Status:Fixed Term Contract (June 26, 2026 - August 21, 2026) (8 weeks)Position Status:Non‑Bargaining Unit positionHours of Work:Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week with limited evening and weekend requirementsHourly Rate:$18.20 per hour – Eligible for HOOPPPosition Reports to:Manager, Integrated Care & ExperiencePrimary work location:Oshawa with flexibility to work at other DCHC sites as required.In partnership with the Canada Summer Jobs Program and its guiding principles, DCHC welcomes all qualified students to apply, particularly those considered as priority students (students with disabilities, Indigenous students, and students who are members of visible minority groups).Position OverviewSpecial Programs Instructors will be working collaboratively within a team, in summer day camps to provide an inclusive program for children with special needs to allow all campers to thrive and be successful at camp.EligibilityBe between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; Have been registered as full‑time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full‑time basis in the next academic year; or have completeda diploma or degree.Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)



and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesProviding one‑on‑one support to children with special needs with a focus on inclusion.Communicating with families of inclusion campers prior to their camp week to discuss pickup/drop‑off times and strategies/tips for success.Acting in a manner that is in accordance with Durham CHC mission and vision.Contributing positively to a fun and valuable camp experience for all campers.Maintaining a positive profile and building relationships within the community.Leading and participating in all camp programming and special events.Provide support and accommodations for campers with diverse needs, including those with exceptionalities, language barriers, or other challenges.Ensure all campers feel welcome and included regardless of their background, abilities,



or identities.Implement activities and strategies that promote inclusivity and respect for diversity.QualificationsGraduate of or enrolled in a post‑secondary program associated with behavioural science or children with exceptionalities.Minimum of 1 year experience working with children with special needs.Knowledge of strategies designed to promote inclusive environments and programs.A high level of maturity.Strong sense of responsibility.Proven ability to take direction and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Current Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening), if in the age range of 18‑30.Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.Current Standard First Aid and CPR certifications.Proof of attending post‑secondary education as of September 2026 or have completed a diploma or degree.CompetenciesInterpersonal SkillsSafetyProblem SolvingAttention to DetailFull vaccination against COVID‑19 is mandatory for this position (DCHC will however adhere to its duty to accommodate those who are unable to be fully vaccinated for a reason related to a human rights protected ground).Durham Community Health Centre (DCHC) is committed to creating an inclusive workplace that welcomes and celebrates diversity so that all employees have the opportunity to thrive.
