Nova Fish Farms Inc., a subsidiary of Ocean Trout Canada Inc., is an independent, Canadian owned organization focused on the successful production of healthy market sized fish by managing the full aquaculture growth cycle – from responsible husbandry and fish health monitoring to feeding strategies, environmental controls, site operations, and harvest planning.

Position Summary The Aquaculture Technician supports daily marine farm operations and fish husbandry activities throughout the production cycle. This role is hands-on and field-based, requiring comfort working on the water, operating vessels and equipment, maintaining farm infrastructure, supporting feeding and harvesting activities, and completing accurate records. The successful candidate will be reliable, physically capable, team-oriented, and committed to protected, responsible aquaculture practices.

Key Responsibilities The Aquaculture Technician will assist with all aspects of marine site operations, including but not limited to:

- Support day-to-day fish husbandry activities from smolt entry through to harvest, including monitoring fish behaviour, feeding response, growth, and general stock condition.
- Assist with feeding operations, feed inventory tracking, and accurate recording of feed use, site observations, mortalities, environmental conditions, and other operational data.
- Operate vessels, skiffs, longliners,



and related marine equipment to travel safely between work sites and complete farm tasks.
- Operate and assist with machinery and equipment such as cranes, compressors, forklifts, net washers, pumps, and other site tools as required and when trained or authorized.
- Complete routine site maintenance, including maintaining cages, nets, moorings, predator systems, walkways, barges, and general farm infrastructure.
- Assist with net washing, net changes, grading, harvesting, fish transfers, site setup, and other production activities as directed.
- Support the utility crew and marine operations team with equipment installation, site preparation, repairs, and seasonal operational requirements.
- Follow company policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety, biosecurity, environmental stewardship, fish welfare, and quality assurance.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding site conditions, equipment issues, safety concerns, and operational priorities.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas on vessels, barges, and farm sites.

Working Conditions

- Full-time, permanent position based at marine aquaculture sites in St. Alban’s, NL.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors and on the water in changing weather and sea conditions.
- Role requires physical work, use of marine equipment, and adherence to all safety and biosecurity requirements.
- Expected hours are approximately 40 hours per week, with scheduling based on operational requirements,



following the continental shift pattern.

Qualifications and Skills

- Previous aquaculture, marine, fisheries, farming, trades, construction, or outdoor labour experience is considered an asset; however, training may be provided for the right candidate.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on or around the water.
- Physically capable of performing manual labour, lifting, carrying, climbing, and working on vessels or floating structures.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with record keeping, equipment checks, safety procedures, and fish health observations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow direction in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to work a schedule that may include early mornings, weekends, holidays, or operational changes based on site needs.
- Valid driver’s licence is considered an asset.
- Small vessel operator training, forklift certification, first aid, or other relevant safety training would be considered an asset.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
