This is a hands-on railway operations leadership role working directly with the Transportation Supervisor to support train crews, coordinate daily train operations and help ensure railway activities are completed safely, efficiently and in compliance with applicable operating rules.

Position Summary The Assistant Transportation Supervisor works directly with the Transportation Supervisor to support the day-to-day supervision and coordination of train crews operating on Big Sky Rail (BGS) and Last Mountain Railway (LMR).
Based in Delisle, Saskatchewan, the Assistant Transportation Supervisor assists with coordinating train crews and operational requirements, developing and executing train plans, monitoring compliance with railway operating rules, conducting efficiency testing and supporting the safe and productive movement of trains across MobilGrain's railway network.
MobilGrain operates in a 24/7 railway environment. While this position has a regular work schedule, the successful candidate must be flexible to support operational requirements and should expect to receive occasional evening calls related to train operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Transportation Supervisor to support day-to-day railway operations.
- Assist with the supervision, coordination and day-to-day leadership of train crews.
- Coordinate and dispatch train crews and drivers based on operational requirements.
- Develop and execute time-sensitive train plans in a fast-paced railway environment.
- Monitor train movements and operational activities to support safe and efficient railway operations.
- Conduct required train crew efficiency testing.
- Monitor and reinforce compliance with Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and applicable railway operating procedures.
- Communicate and coordinate with CN authorities, customers and internal MobilGrain departments as required.
- Provide coaching, training and operational support to train crew employees.
- Investigate railway incidents and complete required reports and documentation.
- Support the safe and efficient utilization of company fleet vehicles.
- Track and report operational and performance metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve train performance, productivity and operational efficiency.
- Maintain a regular field presence and actively support employees during railway operations.
- Promote safe work practices and reinforce MobilGrain's expectations for safe railway operations.
- Lead from the front by demonstrating accountability, professionalism and a strong commitment to safety.
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence required.
- Previous railway operating experience as a Conductor and/or Locomotive Engineer preferred.
- Previous frontline supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of railway operating rules and procedures.
- CROR qualification and experience working under CN or CPKC operating rules preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of train operations, switching and safe rail movement.
- Experience coaching, training or providing operational direction to railway employees considered an asset.
- Solid organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable making operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Relevant railway or safety certifications considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to safe railway operations and frontline leadership.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, permanent position based in Delisle, Saskatchewan.
- Reports directly to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Combination of field and office responsibilities, with significant time spent supporting railway operations in the field.
- Must be able to work outdoors and around active railway operations.
- MobilGrain operates in a 24/7 railway environment, and flexibility is required to support operational needs.
- The successful candidate should expect occasional evening calls related to train operations and may be required to support evenings, weekends or holidays based on operational requirements.
