Build a Meaningful Career Serving First Nations Founded in 2008, Rana Law is a boutique law firm that represents First Nations exclusively. We are committed to advancing decolonization and Indigenous self-determination through legal excellence. We are seeking an Associate Lawyer with 1‑4 years of experience to join our Calgary office.

This position is ideal for a lawyer who wants meaningful responsibility early in their career and is interested in building a long‑term practice serving First Nations communities. Our lawyers work on some of the most significant legal issues facing First Nations today, including governance and self‑government initiatives, Indigenous legal orders, child and family services, litigation and constitutional law, Specific Claims, major projects and regulatory processes, land and resource matters, trusts and settlement implementation, economic development and Aboriginal and treaty rights.

What Makes Rana Law Different At

Rana Law, we provide opportunities to our associates to work directly with clients and gain meaningful experience from an early stage in their careers. Our lawyers are trusted advisors, advocates, negotiators and strategic partners to First Nations across Western Canada. We believe this reflects our commitment to meaningful work, professional development, collaboration and a sustainable approach to private practice.

Rewarding legal work that makes a meaningful difference in First Nations communities. Direct work with First Nation leadership, staff and community members. A supportive in-office environment focused on learning, mentorship, knowledge‑sharing and long‑term career development.

A sustainable annual performance target of 1,400 billable hours plus 100 professional contribution hours, recognizing the importance of business development, continuing professional development, firm leadership, publishing and speaking engagements and participation in client community events. Comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, disability, life insurance, and Employee Assistance Program coverage. A firm‑wide wellness program, on‑site fitness and wellness rooms, wellness challenges, wellness app access and other initiatives that support physical and mental well‑being.

Annual firm retreats focused on professional development, strategic planning, relationship‑building and celebrating our shared successes. We believe exceptional lawyers need time to build relationships, develop expertise, contribute to their communities, and enjoy a rewarding career. Our culture is built around long‑term success rather than a high‑volume billable-hour model.

Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligibility for membership. ~ Litigation experience or a strong interest in litigation. ~ Excellent research, writing, advocacy and communication skills. ~ Experience or robust interest in Indigenous law revitalization. ~ An interest in serving First Nations communities and working in a collaborative team environment. Practice experience in Aboriginal law, regulatory law, employment law, intellectual property law, Indigenous legal orders, child and family services or natural resources law is an asset but not required. Rana Law is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourages applications from all qualified candidates, including First Nations and other Indigenous applicants. #
