What Are We Looking For? Position Title Manager, Marketing & Communications Job Type Full Time Department External Relations Reports to Vice President, Philanthropy & Engagement Position Overview The Manager, Marketing & Communications works with the VP, Philanthropy & Engagement to lead strategic communications across all channels to strengthen Inn from the Cold’s ("The INN") brand, reputation, and impact. This role is responsible for developing and implementing effective communications and marketing plans that promote our mission, showcase the impact of our work, and position The INN as a charity of choice and thought leader in family homelessness. What You’ll Do Lead the day-to-day operations of the Marketing & Communications team, ensuring the execution of impactful strategies aligned with organizational goals. Develop and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies that engage and mobilize diverse audiences, including donors, volunteers, policymakers and the public. Lead the creative direction and production of The INN’s visual and digital assets across various media formats (e.G., video, photo, web, social, advertising, infographics). Develop campaign concepts, creative briefs, messaging, rollout schedules and performance measures; oversee execution and evaluate results across channels. Oversee photography and videography planning for key events and real-time engagements to support future campaign and stewardship use. Partner with the Coordinator, Events & Donor Relations on cross-functional internal and public-facing events, including Town Halls and The INN’s signature events. Collaborate across the organization to develop, promote, and execute internal campaigns such as DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion), staff wellness, and employee engagement. Oversee communications-related inboxes (e.G., E&T, info@, marketing.Comms@), ensuring public and stakeholder inquiries receive timely, professional responses. Ensure the production of clear, compelling and accurate content for a variety of materials including reports, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, annual reports, media releases, website content, and social media.



Oversee the planning and production of the monthly internal newsletter, The INNsider, and contribute to the external newsletter, The INNside Scoop. Co-chair the Wellness & Employee Engagement Committee, advancing internal communication and staff experience goals. Oversee planning and marketing for key stakeholder engagement events such as the Report to Community and Stampede BBQ, and others as required. Collaborate with the Resource Development team to support fundraising success through effective marketing collateral, storytelling, and donor stewardship. Mentor and supervise the Communications & Content Specialist and Administration & Digital Communication Coordinator on social media, content planning, and community engagement. Oversee the organization’s website (WordPress, Kinsta) to ensure timely and accurate updates, optimized performance, and alignment with digital strategy. Lead production of the Annual Report to the Community including layout, content, and visual storytelling. Ensure brand consistency, message alignment, and high quality across all communication channels and materials. Research emerging communications trends, monitor marketing performance data in collaboration with Business Intelligence, and implement cutting-edge tools and approaches to engage stakeholders and support informed decision-making. Support media relations, crisis communications, and government engagement as required. Team Collaboration Provide clear direction, mentorship and support to team members. Contribute to departmental planning, goal-setting, performance measurement, and continuous improvement. Collaborate cross-functionally to align communications, fundraising and engagement activities with organizational priorities. What You Bring to Our Mission A post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field Five to seven years of professional communications, marketing or public relations experience; non-profit experience is considered an asset Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and Microsoft Office365 Strong working knowledge of WordPress, MailChimp, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Google Ads Experience in graphic design, videography, editing and photography is considered an asset Demonstrated ability to write and design for web and social media and to increase audience engagement Must possess strong project management and event planning skills, including the ability to manage several priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines Must have the ability to be an influential communications consultant within the organization Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with employees and stakeholders at all levels Must have discretion, sound judgement, ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to accuracy Understanding of non-profit communications and marketing in support of philanthropy, advocacy and donor stewardship Creative vision with the capacity to help shape and execute an innovative communications strategy Strategic thinking, staying abreast of best and innovative practices, and the ability to identify emerging practices and recommend new ways of doing business A positive attitude, with the ability to use sound judgement and proactive approaches in navigating complex or sensitive situations Adhere at all times to The INN’s Policies, Procedures and Code of Conduct A commitment to advancing The INN’s mission, vision and core values Complete all required training as assigned, such as Indigenous Awareness, Brain Story, conflict de-escalation, harm reduction, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and others What We Offer We provide people with meaningful work and are committed to offering equitable benefits and total compensation to all staff, including: Competitive salary, where all employees are paid a living wage at minimum Focus on health and wellbeing, including access to employer paid extended health benefits, dental benefits, annual health spending
