The Peace River School Division is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time (1.00 F.T.E.) Class 1 & 3 Driver & Air Brakes Instructor to join our growing team. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of confirmed driving experience. Having prior teaching or driver development experience is considered an asset, but the Division is willing to offer instructor training based on the Alberta Transportation Curriculum for suitable candidates.

Basic computer skills will also be necessary in this position.

The commencement date for this position is as soon as possible or as mutually agreed upon.

The job duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

- To adhere to the Alberta Provincial requirements for Class 1, 3 & Air Brakes.
- Provide classroom, behind-the-wheel, road, yard, simulator, and Air Brakes training to entry-level truck operators.
- Conduct classroom training on provincial rules and regulations, protected vehicle operation, and other topics related to the safe and effective operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
- Tracks attendees and maintains training documentation based on regulations and company policy.
- Complete progress reports, overall grading, and evaluations on course completion forms for each student.
- Responsible for daily pre-trip checks (may be done in conjunction with training) and to inform mechanics of any issues with the units.
- Follow proper training logs and modules.
- Provide ongoing mentorship to drivers while maintaining a positive, professional and approachable attitude.

Requirements And Experience

- Minimum 5 years of verifiable Class 1 commercial driving experience, including regular highway and urban/city driving.



Experience must involve substantive on-road operation of commercial vehicles.

- Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver’s License with Air Brakes (Q) endorsement required.
- 18 Speed Transmission experience (must be able to drive manual transmission).
- Satisfactory Drivers Abstract required.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience with chaining up vehicles is considered an asset.
- Comfortable with adopting and learning new technologies
- Ability to work with both a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
- Solid verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Ability to perform physical duties of the position, including sitting/standing for extended periods of time and entering/exiting vehicles.
- Ability to pass the knowledge and road instructor exams for both Class 1 and Air Brakes.

Other Requirments For Employment

- Provide a current, acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check, dated within six (6) months of application.
