Cloverdale Paint is seeking an ambitious individual for a full-time position with open availability at our store in Vancouver, BC.
The Colour and Design Intern provides knowledgeable, customer-focused service while helping customers and design professionals confidently navigate colour, samples, finishes and paint systems. The position combines the core responsibilities of a CSR with practical interior design support, Colour Edit presentation standards and community outreach.
The successful candidate must be able to regularly commute to 2555 Arbutus St, Vancouver, BC.
Wage is negotiable depending on previous experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Branch Operations
- Welcome customers, assess project needs and provide prompt, courteous service in person and by telephone
- Support product selection, order entry, tinting, colour matching, cash/POS transactions and accurate order completion
- Prepare products and supplies for customer pickup and replenish stocked merchandise and colour material displays
- Assist with receiving, stocking, inventory counts and general branch cleanliness
- Safely lift and maneuver paint and related supplies using appropriate equipment and secure work practices
- Follow company procedures for workplace safety, cash handling, confidentiality, returns and customer issue escalation
Colour and Design Support
- Guide customers through the colour selection using fan decks, colour chips, samples, visualization tools and curated palettes
- Apply foundational knowledge of colour theory, undertones, lighting, proportion, finish coordination and current interior trends
- Help customers coordinate wall, trim, ceiling and accent colours with flooring, cabinetry,
textiles and other fixed finishes
- Explain how lighting, substrate and sheen can affect colour appearance and refer technical coating questions to trained branch or technical staff, as appropriate
- Maintain the Colour Edit area, sample library, displays, trend boards and consultation materials to a high visual standard
- Schedule and support colour consultations, document customer preferences and complete timely follow-up
- Create simple, brand-aligned mood boards and palette summaries using approved tools and templates
- Support events, demos, tours, designer outreach and approved social initiatives through project stories and colour inspiration
- Build relationships with local design professionals, students and community partners to promote Colour Edit services
- Track consultations, samples issued, customer follow ups and related sales outcomes
REQUIREMENTS
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from an Interior Design, Interior Decorating and Environmental Design or related program
- Coursework or demonstrated knowledge of colour theory, materials and finishes, lighting and client presentation
- Able to lift and maneuver paint containers and related products up to 70 lb., with or without reasonable accommodation
- Strong customer service, active listening, communication and relationship-building skills
- Creative and detail-oriented, with the ability to translate customer ideas into practical, coordinated colour recommendations
- Comfortable using retail technology, Microsoft Office and digital design or presentation tools
- Able to learn and effectively use POS, tinting and colour-matching systems
- Reliable, organized and ability to balance creative consultations with operational responsibilities in a retail environment
- Available to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays and peak retail periods
- Able to perform the physical requirements of the position,
including lifting and maneuvering paint containers and related products weighing up to 70 lb., with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to meet applicable health and safety requirements, including respirator-use requirements where necessary
- Previous experience in retail, paint, home improvement, design showrooms or hospitality is an asset
Physical Demands of Position The essential function of this position involves physical duties, including the regular lifting, carrying, and moving of paint containers and related products weighing up to 70 pounds individually or with appropriate lifting equipment when required. The successful candidate must be able to safely perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, in accordance with applicable human rights legislation.

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week
