Kanatir Kinetics is a Canadian defence technology company in Ottawa. We build uncrewed carriers and the mission software that runs on them. Our engineering discipline is built on measurement rather than claim: we calculate before we buy, test before we claim, and record what failed.
We are contracting an ML and Signal Processing Engineer to work on evidential fusion across heterogeneous sensor modalities.
The work
Fusion that preserves uncertainty and inter-source disagreement rather than collapsing them into one confidence number.
A significant part of the role is diagnostic. When a detection path underperforms, determining whether the cause is information loss in feature representation, detector policy, threshold selection, or some combination, and correcting the actual cause rather than the convenient one. You would also characterise a current sensing modality's derived features for stability and discriminating value, and report honestly when a modality does not earn its place.
What we need
Applied signal processing across more than one sensing modality
Practical familiarity with evidential or probabilistic fusion. Dempster-Shafer experience is a direct hit, though rigour matters more than the specific framework
Anomaly detection under non-stationary conditions, and an understanding of why naive adaptive baselines fail
Evaluation discipline: disjoint data, and no tuning to force a pass
What this is not
Not a model-training role where the goal is a leaderboard number. The goal is a defensible measurement, including when the measurement disappoints.
To apply, use the form on our careers page and attach your CV. Some work may be subject to Canadian controlled goods and export control requirements, which can affect eligibility; we will discuss this directly. Please send only unclassified, releasable information.
Pay: $60.00-$105.00 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Ottawa, ON
