The Town of Drayton Valley is seeking a strategic, innovative Communications Manager to lead our corporate communications, media relations, public engagement, and marketing initiatives. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and departments across the organization.

As Communications Manager, you will:

✅ Develop and lead corporate communications, marketing, and engagement strategies

✅ Provide strategic communications advice to senior leadership, and all Town departments

✅ Manage media relations

✅ Create compelling content across digital, print, social media, and web platforms

✅ Lead communications planning for major projects, initiatives, and community engagement activities

✅ Monitor emerging issues and provide proactive issues management support

✅ Support emergency and crisis communications efforts, including serving as a Public Information Officer during emergencies

✅ Championing organizational priorities and creating awareness on various programs, initiatives and projects





We're looking for a communications professional who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of progressive communications experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
- Exceptional writing, editing, media relations, and public speaking skills
- Experience developing communications plans, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives
- Strong project management and organizational abilities
- The confidence to navigate sensitive issues with professionalism, discretion, and political awareness
- Experience using social media platforms, content management systems, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build solid relationships with diverse stakeholders

Assets

- Municipal or public-sector experience
- Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA)
- Public engagement experience
- ICS 300 certification
- Emergency management or crisis communications experience
