Hands-On Controller – Luxury Millwork & Cabinetry
Location: Brampton, ON
Job Type: Full time
Salary: $90,000–$100,000 per year
Work Location: On-site
Job Summary
We are a growing group of companies operating in the luxury architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, manufacturing, and installation industry.
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to take ownership of the accounting function across multiple related companies.
This is not a position for someone who only wants to review reports prepared by others. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working at both the Controller level and transaction level when required.
The successful candidate should already have a strong accounting foundation and should not require training on core accounting principles. At the same time, we want someone who is practical, open-minded, adaptable, and willing to help improve systems and processes.
You should be comfortable reviewing financial statements one moment and then investigating a reconciliation, correcting an entry, reviewing a vendor invoice, or tracing a job-costing discrepancy the next.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, works with urgency, and approaches problems with a solution-oriented attitude.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of multiple related companies, including:
- Managing the full accounting cycle
- Maintaining accurate general ledgers
- Preparing monthly financial statements
- Managing month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Preparing and reviewing Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and cash-flow reporting
- Managing multiple company books and intercompany transactions
- Reconciling bank accounts and credit cards
- Reviewing and managing Accounts Payable
- Monitoring Accounts Receivable and collections
- Managing customer deposits, progress billings, change orders, and final billings
- Maintaining weekly cash-flow forecasts
- Monitoring short-term cash requirements and working capital
- Maintaining accurate job costing by project
- Reviewing estimated versus actual project costs
- Monitoring material, manufacturing labour, installation labour, subcontractor, freight, and other direct project costs
- Maintaining and reviewing WIP reporting
- Identifying margin deterioration and project cost overruns
- Reviewing inventory and work-in-process balances
- Reviewing payroll accounting and payroll liabilities
- Assisting with Ontario HST and other applicable tax filings
- Supporting multi-entity and cross-border accounting matters
- Preparing schedules for external accountants and tax advisors
- Assisting with year-end financial reporting and tax preparation
- Maintaining proper accounting cut-off procedures
- Protecting closed accounting periods from unauthorized changes
- Improving accounting controls and financial procedures
- Helping improve ERP, job-costing, and reporting systems
- Providing ownership and management with clear financial reporting
- Investigating discrepancies and resolving accounting issues
- Working closely with project management, purchasing, production, installation, and administrative teams
Job Costing & Project Accounting A major part of this role will involve understanding the financial performance of individual projects. The Controller will be expected to:

Experience in construction, manufacturing, cabinetry, millwork, or another project-based industry is highly preferred.
