Ottawa Dance Centre School

Ottawa

Coordinator

Ottawa Dance Centre School (ODCS) is a not-for-profit dance school that has been providing quality dance education in Ottawa since 1972. Under the artistic direction of Rebecca Middleton and the ODCS Faculty, students are guided from their earliest years through advanced training in Classical Ballet and Contemporary dance in a supportive, creative and welcoming environment.

We are currently seeking a friendly, organized and dependable Coordinator to join our team.

The Coordinator plays an important role in the day-to-day running of the school and is often the first point of contact for our students and families. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and families, is confident communicating with people, and can take initiative in a busy dance school environment.

Responsibilities The Coordinator's responsibilities include:

- Managing the main entrance and front-of-house operations during classes
- Welcoming students and families as they arrive
- Assisting students, parents and visitors and directing them as needed
- Communicating and coordinating with ODCS faculty
- Helping students navigate the building and locate their classes
- Responding to basic parent and student questions
- Supporting the Artistic Director with administrative tasks
- Assisting with attendance, registration lists and other school records
- Completing administrative tasks using Google Workspace
- Helping maintain an organized, professional and welcoming environment
- Assisting with occasional special projects and school activities
- Identifying and addressing day-to-day issues as they arise and communicating concerns to the Artistic Director

Who We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is reliable, responsible, friendly and proactive.

Because the Coordinator is responsible for helping manage the school during class hours, punctuality and consistent attendance are essential. We are looking for someone who can reliably commit to the regular weekly schedule throughout our September–June programming.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently, noticing what needs to be done and taking initiative rather than waiting for instructions for every task.

The Coordinator is also one of the first people our students and families see when they arrive, so a warm, approachable and professional manner is key.

Qualifications

- Experience working with children, families and/or the public
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy environment
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable using Google Workspace, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Calendar
- Previous experience in a dance school or personal experience as a dance student is an asset
- Administrative or customer-service experience is an asset
- Experience with social media, photography,

communications or other media-related tasks is an asset
- Must have the legal right to work in Canada
- Must be able to reliably commute to De La Salle High School in Ottawa

Position Schedule This is an ongoing, in-person position, with regular working months from September through June. ODCS is closed for regular programming during the summer months of July and August, with the position resuming when classes return in September.

The position is approximately 9 hours per week during regular programming.

Regular Hours

Monday: 5:30–7:30 p.m.

Tuesday: 5:30–7:45 p.m.

Thursday: 5:30–7:15 p.m.

Friday: 5:30–8:30 p.m.

Applicants should be available for and able to reliably commit to the full regular weekly schedule.

ODCS also holds approximately 2–3 major events throughout the year, including performances and other school events. The Coordinator will be expected to provide additional support for these events, which may take place outside the regular weekly schedule. Dates will be communicated in advance wherever possible.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for consistent part-time evening work in a creative and community-focused environment. It may particularly suit someone with an interest or background in dance, arts administration, education, customer service or working with children.

If you are organized, approachable, dependable and enjoy being part of a busy and welcoming community, we would love to hear from you.

Pay: $17.60-$19.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 9.0 per week
