Simaril is a Winnipeg-based non-profit organization that has supported people to build full, meaningful lives since 1987.

Our supports are tailored to each person’s goals, preferences, strengths, and level of support needed. We provide residential and community-based programs, including Residential Living, Supported Independent Living, Home Share, Respite, and Cluster services.

Across our programs, we focus on helping people build greater choice, independence, connection, and belonging in everyday life.

The Role

As a Direct Support Worker, no two days are the same. You’ll support individuals in their homes and communities by helping with daily living, building independence, pursuing personal goals, and participating in meaningful activities.

How you’ll make a difference

Building positive, professional relationships with individuals, families, and team members

Supporting daily living and personal care, including hygiene, dressing, toileting, and mobility

Administer medications according to established procedures

Build independence and life skills by encouraging choice, learning, and personal growth





Support community participation through appointments, recreational activities, social opportunities, and outings

Provide emotional support and companionship while fostering positive, respectful relationships

Support positive behaviours and respond to crisis situations using prevention, intervention, and de-escalation strategies

Prepare meals and support household routines, including grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and laundry

Maintain accurate documentation and reporting to support continuity and quality of support

What You Need to Be Successful

Proof of legal eligibility to work in Canada will be required as part of the recruitment and onboarding process

Post-secondary education in Community Support Work, Disability and Community Support, Social Services, Mental Health, or a related field is considered an asset

High School Diploma

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada with continuous status

1–2 years of experience supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Tech Savy (Including Experience with Microsoft Office)

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Advocacy and problem-solving skills

Flexibility and adaptability A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence

Reliable access to a personal vehicle

Extended background checks including the following:

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

Adult Abuse Registry Check

Child Abuse Registry Check

Current First Aid and CPR Certification

You will help each person feel safe, respected,



and included while supporting them to build independence, make meaningful choices, and take part in community life. It involves providing person-centred support that reflects each individual’s goals, strengths, and needs.

Mental Health, Addictions & Trauma-Informed Care

Autism, FASD & Co-Occurring Disabilities

Behavioural Support & Crisis Intervention (NVCI)

Personal Care, Mobility & Lifts/Transfers

Community Inclusion & Justice-Involved Populations

Mental Health First Aid & ASL

Communication Strategies for Non-Verbal Individuals

Work Location

South-Eastern Manitoba

Applicants should be comfortable commuting to communities located southeast of Winnipeg. Specific work locations will be discussed with shortlisted candidates during the recruitment process.
