MKEE is currently recruiting an experienced Estimator on behalf of a well-established and growing civil construction company in Calgary.

We are looking for an Intermediate Estimator with experience in civil construction, earthworks, and ideally underground utility construction. Reporting to the Senior Estimator, you will play an important role in preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of civil construction projects.

This is a great opportunity for someone who understands how construction actually comes together, from drawings and quantities to production rates, labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and overall project costs.

You will be responsible for managing multiple tenders, identifying risks and scope gaps, developing pricing, and working closely with estimating, project management, suppliers, subcontractors, and field operations.

What we're looking for: We're looking for someone who brings both estimating expertise and a practical understanding of civil construction.

You Bring:

- 3–5 years of estimating experience in civil construction
- At least 2 years of underground construction experience
- Experience with underground utilities and/or earthworks strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of underground construction and earthworks methods, sequencing, production rates, quantities, and costs




- Experience estimating both lump-sum and unit-rate projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Experience with HeavyBid and/or AGTEK is considered an asset
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate estimates
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and competing deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with estimating, project management, and field operations teams

What You'll Be Doing

- Prepare detailed estimates for civil construction projects, including underground utilities and earthworks
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, tender documents, and project requirements
- Complete detailed quantity takeoffs
- Develop labour, equipment, material, subcontractor, and overall project pricing
- Develop production rates, project assumptions, execution strategies, and schedules
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and cost-saving or value-engineering opportunities
- Manage multiple estimates and tender deadlines
- Work with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams throughout the estimating process
- Prepare and maintain accurate bid documentation
- Participate in project handover meetings to ensure the estimate aligns with project execution
- Assist with job cost reviews and post-project analysis to improve future estimating accuracy
