Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Forklift Operator / Yard Labourer to join our Operations team.

This position is assigned to both our Richmond and Maple Ridge locations. The employee will generally spend the majority of their working time at our Richmond facility, but must be available and willing to work at Maple Ridge whenever operational needs require.

Applicants should understand that both Richmond and Maple Ridge are considered regular work locations for this position. The successful candidate must have reliable personal transportation and be able to travel independently to either facility as scheduled or requested by the company.

This is a hands-on position in a metal recycling yard and industrial environment. The primary responsibilities include operating a forklift to load, unload, move, and organize metal materials, including loading and unloading containers and trucks, as well as performing general yard labour and supporting other operational activities as required.

The position involves working outdoors in different weather conditions and in an industrial environment where employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, noise, and changing weather conditions. Candidates must be comfortable with physical work and working in this type of environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Safely and efficiently operate a forklift within the yard.
- Load and unload metal materials from shipping containers, trucks, trailers, and bins using a forklift.
- Move, organize, stack, and stage ferrous and non-ferrous materials throughout the yard.
- Assist with the preparation of materials for incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Perform general yard labour and material-handling duties when forklift operation is not required.
- Assist with sorting, organizing, cleaning, and moving recyclable metal materials.
- Support container loading and unloading operations as required.
- Assist other operators and team members with daily yard activities.
- Perform daily forklift inspections and report any equipment issues or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and operational requirements.
- Learn the basic identification, classification, and handling of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
- Support other operational duties as assigned based on workload and business needs.
- Work at either the Richmond or Maple Ridge facility as scheduled or required.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (approximately 23 kg) when required.
- Ability to perform physical labour throughout the workday, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling materials.
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in an industrial metal recycling environment, including exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and machinery.




- Comfortable performing a combination of forklift operation and general labour duties.

Requirements

- Forklift certificate.
- Immediate availability is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience operating a forklift, preferably in a recycling, warehouse, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely and confidently while handling different types of materials.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and attention to surroundings.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
- Able to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible and willing to support different yard activities based on operational needs.
- Must have a valid driver's licence and reliable personal transportation to travel independently to both the Richmond and Maple Ridge work locations.
- Must be willing and available to work at either Richmond or Maple Ridge, depending on operational requirements.
- Must be comfortable performing general labour duties in addition to forklift operation.
- Experience operating other yard equipment, such as a skid steer, is considered an asset but is not required.

Compensation & Benefits

- Pay: CA$25.00 per hour
- Schedule: Monday to Friday - 7:30 AM – 4:00 pm
- Work Locations: Richmond, BC and Maple Ridge, BC
- Primary Location: Most shifts are expected to be in Richmond; however, employees must report to Maple Ridge whenever scheduled or required based on operational needs.
- Saturday Availability: Candidates must be open to working Saturdays at either Richmond or Maple Ridge when additional operational support is required.
