Lead Hand - Carpenter

Overview The Lead Hand Carpenter (LHC) is a critical role in supporting the Site Superintendent to ensure successful project execution. If applicable, the LHC may, from time to time, lead smaller projects as part of their development plan on the path to a Site Superintendent position. The LHC position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and adaptability.

The LHC is responsible for overseeing and executing carpentry work on residential and/or commercial construction projects as assigned. This role involves assisting the Site Superintendent with work as assigned and leading a team of Trade Partners and labourers, ensuring quality craftsmanship, maintaining safety standards, and keeping project site work on schedule, within budget, and of the highest quality standards. The LHC works closely with Site Superintendents, Project Managers, Pretium Executive Leadership, and Trade Partners to coordinate tasks and problem-solve on-site challenges.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Carpentry & Construction Execution

- Perform and oversee rough and finish carpentry, framing, trim, and other carpentry-related tasks.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy in construction.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, wood/metal, and other materials as required.
- Ensure structural integrity and quality craftsmanship in all carpentry work.

Leadership & Team Coordination

- Lead and mentor other carpenters, apprentices, and labourers, providing guidance and hands-on training. Seek opportunities to further your own learning and skills through other site/company team members and ongoing education and training programs.
- Assign tasks, set work schedules, and ensure efficient workflow on-site.
- Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to maintain smooth operations and schedule adherence.
- Act as the primary point of contact for carpentry-related concerns and troubleshooting.





Quality Control & Safety Compliance

- Inspect work to ensure it meets company standards, building codes, and client expectations.
- Enforce safety protocols and compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Conduct site hazard assessments and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are used and maintained properly.

Project Coordination & Problem-Solving

- Monitor project progress to the six-week look-ahead schedule, and report any delays, issues, or material shortages to supervisors.
- Assist in estimating material requirements and ordering supplies.
- Identify and resolve construction challenges to keep projects on schedule.
- Work efficiently to minimize waste and maximize productivity.

Administrative & Reporting Duties

- Maintain records of work completed, materials used, and any site issues.
- Assist in time tracking, job costing, and documenting progress.
- Communicate with Superintendents and Project Manager regarding project status and any necessary adjustments.

Qualifications & Experience

- Journeyman Carpenter Certification or willingness to work towards a Journeyman Ticket.
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on carpentry experience, including leadership roles.
- Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and ability to enforce regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Robust communication and teamwork abilities.

Process Improvement & Compliance

- Advocate for technology adoption and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain stringent health, safety, and environmental standards.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

- Maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders you engage with.
- Represent yourself, coworkers, and Pretium as leaders in the construction industry any time you are at work or at industry-related functions.
