Position Summary The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks relating to the maintenance, repair, and installation of lock systems across Division facilities.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Install, repair, rebuild, disassemble, adjust, and service mechanical or electrical locking devices.
- Service and rekey lock cylinders.
- Code cut keys from files and duplicate keys from files and duplicate existing keys.
- Service, install, and change combinations of digital and mechanical safes.
- Complete service paperwork, and maintain confidential client records.
- Provide consultation and assist internal customers in problems with locking mechanisms.
- Installation of all types of door hardware.
- Maintain records of key holders
- Repair, replace or adjust components that are damaged or defective entrance or exit door (ex.door closers, hinges, electric release mechanisms, the door itself)
- Design and/or maintain master key systems.
- Regain access to secured areas by means of picking or bypassing locking devices
Education/Qualifications
- valid Alberta Journeyperson or Interprovincial Locksmith Certificate
- valid Alberta Driver’s Licence
- experience working in a school or institutional environment is considered an asset
- experience with commercial hardware is considered an asset
- experience with the installation and repair of card access locks is considered an asset
Skills and Abilities
- ability to establish and maintain master key systems
- ability to work independently on a wide range of equipment
- must have the ability to: lift at least 25kg; climb ladders, work at heights, kneel, stand and walk for extended periods; perform work in awkward positions
- must be able to undertake tasks requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- good problem solving, organizational, time management, and record keeping skills
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- computer literacy
- ability to work independently or on a team
Rate of Pay $43.33 per hour
Vehicle Allowance of $464.32 bi-weekly

Closing
Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (shift work may be required based on weather/seasonal workload)
The successful candidate must
- provide all trade related hand tools
- be prepared to use personal vehicle to travel to Division schools and buildings
- be available to attend after hours emergencies
- provide vulnerable sector police information check
- satisfactorily complete training required by the Division, including but not limited to occupational health and safety courses (ex. First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Spaces, Asbestos training and other training as required)
- adhere to all safe work procedures as well as Division policies and practices.
- actively engage in qualified learning and committees as assigned
