Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist – Cylindrical Grinder to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining cylindrical grinding equipment to manufacture and refurbish precision components to exact specifications.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in precision machining and cylindrical grinding, a commitment to producing high-quality work, and a focus on safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

· Set up and operate manual cylindrical grinding machines.

· Grind shafts, rolls, journals, and other precision components to required tolerances and surface finish specifications.

· Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.

· Select and mount grinding wheels and tooling appropriate for material and job requirements.

· Inspect and measure finished parts using precision measuring equipment, including:

o Micrometers o Calipers o Bore gauges o Dial indicators

· Verify dimensional accuracy, concentricity, straightness, roundness, and surface finishes.

· Perform machine adjustments to maintain product quality and production efficiency.





· Troubleshoot machining and grinding issues and recommend corrective actions.

· Conduct routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean and organized workspace.

· Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and operating policies.

· Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to meet customer requirements and production schedules.

What You Bring

Required

- Minimum 3 years of machining experience with a solid focus on cylindrical grinding.
- Experience operating manual cylindrical grinding equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of geometric tolerancing and precision measurement techniques.
- Proven ability to hold tight tolerances and achieve high-quality surface finishes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Preferred

- Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience grinding chrome-plated, hardened, and thermal spray-coated components.
- Familiarity with grinding wheel balancing and dressing procedures.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Crane and forklift operating experience considered an asset.
