About GlycoTech
GlycoTech builds a field-deployable electrochemical sensor that continuously monitors glycol, the active ingredient in aircraft de-icing fluid in airport stormwater.
Most airports still measure glycol by sending someone out with a bottle and shipping grab samples to a lab. We're replacing that with a battery-powered, cellular-connected instrument that sits in a stormwater basin through an entire Canadian winter and reports continuously. Our first units go live this December across multiple airport pilots.
We're a team of three working out of the Velocity incubator in Waterloo. The product is real, the deadlines are real, and the hardware is going outside in February.
What we're looking for
- Enrolled in a Mechanical, Mechatronics, or closely related engineering program (Nanotechnology, Systems Design, Environmental welcome if your mechanical fundamentals are solid).
- Solid CAD fluency, This is the tool we live in,
and we care less about how many features you know than how you use them. You model with intent: sketches that stay fully defined, features that survive a dimension change three weeks later, assemblies that mate cleanly, drawings a shop can quote from without emailing you. The real test, you can open a part you didn't create, read the design intent out of the tree, and edit it without detonating it.
- Design for manufacture on the processes we actually use: 3D printing, sheet metal, machined plastics, off-the-shelf fluidic components.
- Hands-on bench ability, you'll be the person assembling, leak-testing, and freezing the thing you drew.
- Enough thermal and mechanics-of-materials to size an insulation package, a concrete anchor, or a clamping stack and defend the number.
