DEPARTMENT:Persons with Developmental Disabilities

Residential Services/Community Services

Statement of the Purpose of the Position:

To assist individuals to live as independently as possible in the community and ensure community access and participation

Primary Responsibilities: (some or all may apply depending on the task to be performed)

Perform regular housekeeping chores

Assist in physical therapy of individuals

Perform other related duties as required by Edenbridge Family Services Inc.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

a.Performs regular housekeeping chores (if applicable) by:

Cooking nutritious meals in adequate quantities to meet individuals needs

Washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils after every meal

Cleaning the kitchen daily or as required

Ensuring that individual’s bedding is clean and changed as required

Assisting with or doing individuals laundry

Ironing and mending individual’s clothes as required

Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, washing, and polishing as required to ensure cleanliness of the house

Other assigned duties as specified by the Home Supervisor or other

Assisting with bathing, or showering daily or as required

Aiding individuals in personal hygiene, such as regular washing and trimming of hair, brushing of teeth etc.

Aiding in individual’s toilet needs, including all aspects required to ensure individual’s health

Assisting with feminine hygiene as required

Assisting individual to dress/undress themselves

Aiding individuals to eat as required

Ensuring that prescribed medication is taken

Taking individual to medical professionals as required

Doing only those things for the individual that he/she cannot do for him/herself

Avoiding the use of any restrictive procedures except as directed





c.Assists in the socialization and education of individuals by:

Assist/teach individual to look after himself/herself, being aware of the individuals’ capabilities

Ensure community access/participation by assisting/taking individual on trips into the community for shopping, exercise, and entertainment

Assist/teach individual about personal hygiene

Assist/teach individual with proper care of personal clothing and possessions

Assist individual to communicate on the phone or by mail

Encouraging interaction between the individual and his/her family.

Assist individual with money management.

d.Supervises individuals by:

Working actively with individual during assigned hours of work

Ensuring individual is not in danger from the setting, other people, or themselves

Keeping alert at all times

e.Perform other related duties as required by Edenbridge Homes & Support Services Inc. by:

Attending staff meetings as required

Attending appropriate in-service training as provided

Reading and following through on all memos

Being familiar with and following through with the Mission Statement, Philosophy, and Objectives of Edenbridge Family Services Inc.

Adapt to changing assignments as required

Realize that this position description outlines only the basic guidelines for the position, and go beyond the basic requirements as required

Remember the dignity of the individual for whom he/she is responsible

Respecting the confidentiality of individuals,



and co-workers, and agency.

Reporting any concerns to the Edenbridge Supervisor

Performing any related job duty in addition to these mentioned as assigned by Edenbridge Family Services Inc.

f.Abuse

Staff Abuse

The individual’s home is not safe and/or the staff is in danger.

Excessive and/or unreasonable verbal or physical abuse towards staff by the individual or their family members.

Client Abuse – Edenbridge Directors reserve the right to terminate staff employment if there is any activity which results in physical or mental injury or damage, undue discomfort, undue fear or takes unfair advantage of an individual, and is the result of any behavior of an employee which goes beyond or is prohibited by the normal standards of practice of the department which apply to that employee.

Edenbridge has a zero-tolerance policy regarding abuse of both the persons we serve and our staff.

Job Requirements:

a.Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of the individuals

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Demonstrate an interest in and the ability for assisting individuals to maintain their independence in the community.

b.Degree of education:

It is preferred to have graduated from an approved training school or recognized college or willing to participate in appropriate training.

c.Desirable amount of previous experience in similar work:

1 to 2 years in a related field

d.Specific skills required:

Police Security Check

CPI certification (Crisis Prevention Intervention)

Participate in mandatory in-service training as indicated by the Executive Director
