Part-Time Art Instructor – Weekend

Location: Oro Art Studio, Markham, ON

Job Type: Part-time, in person

Compensation: $18–$30 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability

Expected Hours: Approximately 4–10 hours per week initially

About Oro Art Studio

Oro Art Studio provides individualized small-group art instruction for children and teenagers. Our programs emphasize strong drawing and painting fundamentals, observation, creative development, and long-term student progress.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated part-time Art Instructor who is interested in growing with the studio. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may begin by co-teaching or supporting classes before independently leading a regular group.

Responsibilities

- Teach or co-teach small-group art classes for children and teenagers
- Support students working at different levels and on different projects within the same class
- Teach foundational drawing, painting, colour, composition, and observational skills
- Prepare and adapt projects within the studio’s curriculum and teaching framework
- Maintain brief records of student progress and photograph completed or in-progress work
- Contribute observations for periodic student and parent feedback
- Communicate classroom concerns, scheduling issues, and student needs proactively
- Assist with classroom preparation, materials, and organization
- Gradually take responsibility for regular classes and lesson planning

Qualifications
- A completed Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fine Arts, Illustration, Drawing and Painting, Animation, Art Education, or another studio-based visual arts discipline from a recognized degree-granting institution is required




- Applicants must have received structured post-secondary studio training in observational drawing, form, proportion, composition, colour, and traditional media
- A portfolio demonstrating strong drawing and painting fundamentals in traditional media is required
- Candidates from primarily digital, animation, or design-based programs must still demonstrate sufficient traditional drawing and painting foundations
- Experience teaching or working with children is an asset
- Patient, dependable, professional, and comfortable communicating with both children and parents
- Receptive to feedback and able to follow established curriculum and studio standards
- Able to work independently after training
- English fluency is required; Mandarin is an asset

Schedule Reliable weekend availability is required. Priority will be given to candidates who are available on both Saturdays and Sundays during daytime hours. Initial hours may be limited and will increase based on enrolment, performance, and studio needs.
