Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is seeking a skilled and collaborative Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic Neurosurgery team. In this advanced practice role, you will work closely with supervising neurosurgeons to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across the full continuum—from emergency support to post-operative follow-up. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to complex surgical care, advance your clinical expertise, and play a key role in improving access and patient outcomes within a leading academic health sciences centre.

What We Offer

- Hourly Wage: $49.05 – $63.17
- Premiums:
- Evening/Night: $2.98/hour

Your Role

Reporting to the supervising neurosurgeon, with accountability to the Director of Professional Practice and Division Chair of Neurosurgery for administrative matters, you will:

Clinical Practice

- Participate in the neurosurgery on-call rotation to support emergency and urgent care
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physical assessments
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and investigations
- Assist in the operating room and perform minor procedures
- Lead daily inpatient rounds and assess post-operative recovery
- Support discharge planning and continuity of care
- Provide patient education and follow-up care

Coordination & Continuity of Care

- Facilitate patient screening, referrals,



and transitions across care settings
- Support access to care initiatives and patient flow within neurosurgery

Leadership & Professional Practice

- Provide clinical leadership and mentorship within the interprofessional team
- Support education for patients, families, and colleagues
- Contribute to quality improvement, policy development, and best practice initiatives
- Participate in clinical research and academic activities

Administrative Responsibilities

- Manage patient communications including follow-ups, prescriptions, and inquiries

What You Bring

Education & Certification

- Undergraduate degree as a Physician Assistant (BSc PA or equivalent) or recognized military training/experience
- Certification with either:
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), or
- Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC)

- Meets Ontario PA competency framework requirements

Experience & Skills

- Minimum 3 years of experience in surgery, trauma, or acute care (neurosurgery strongly preferred)
- Strong clinical judgment with the ability to make timely decisions in high-pressure environments
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Surgical assistance and procedural skills
- Patient and family education
- Interprofessional collaboration

- Proven leadership, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational abilities




- Strong critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making

Additional Requirements

- Completion of relevant Operating Room training/certification
- Demonstrated involvement in research and quality improvement initiatives is an asset
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check required
