Under the direction of Public Works Supervisory staff, successful applicants will perform Public Works maintenance activities in a professional, productive, and efficient manner on road allowances, drainage systems, parking lots, parks, traffic control devices and other Town assets.
Participate in public works activities following prescribed methods for maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts, trees, ditches, storm sewer systems, sidewalks, curbs, traffic control devices, parks, and trails
Operate 3 and 5 tonne snowplow trucks with computerized material spreading controllers, pick-up trucks with snowplow and spreader, and municipal tractors with attachments
Safely and efficiently clear snow from roads, cul-de-sacs, cemeteries, sidewalks, and parking lots completing all activities to Town standards
Operate other equipment, including wheeled loaders, wood chippers, single axle vehicles and tractors with attachments
Competently perform flag person activities in accordance with traffic safety regulations
Operate hand and power tools in a safe and productive manner to complete maintenance activities
Provide excellent customer service to staff, outside agencies and the public while always interacting in a positive manner
Maintain a teamwork approach to all operations
Qualifications: Secondary school diploma or equivalent education and experience
Valid Ontario class ‘D’ license with ‘Z’ endorsement and can provide a current driver’s abstract
Physical ability to meet the requirements of public works activities, including being able to consistently lift 20-kilograms in weight
Knowledge of the Town of Halton Hills Road systems, parks and facilities
Winter control experience is an asset
Valuable communication skills, including written, verbal and listening
Knowledge of the proper usage of all personal protective equipment
Municipal work experience and chain saw certification is an asset
Hours of Work: Successful candidates can expect to work varying shifts. Winter hours are Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or scheduled on a Winter Patrol shift which could include weekends and holidays. In addition, successful candidates may be required to be on standby for weekends, and work overtime as required, including weekends and holidays.
Compensation: $26.41– Seasonal Labourer classification as specified in the Collective Agreement between the Town of Halton Hills and C.U.P.E. Local 73.
