About Hughes Intelligence

Established in 1994 and based in Sarnia, Ontario, Hughes Intelligence provides professional security services throughout Sarnia-Lambton. We are committed to maintaining high standards of training, professionalism and customer service.

We are currently recruiting licensed Security Guards to provide security services at temporary housing shelters in Sarnia.

This is a people-focused security role for individuals who can remain calm under pressure, communicate respectfully and maintain clear, consistent boundaries. The successful candidates will help create a safe and respectful environment for shelter clients, staff and visitors.

This position is available on either a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time applicants must be available for 35 to 40 hours per week.

Applicants must be available to work:

- Scheduled shifts between 8 and 12 hours
- Days, afternoons and nights
- Weekends and statutory holidays
- Weekend shifts*

While day shifts may occasionally be available, most shifts are evenings and overnights. Typical shift times include:

- Weekend day shifts from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- Weekend evening shifts from 4:30 PM to midnight
- Weekend overnight shifts from midnight to 8:00 AM
- Monday to Friday overnight shifts from midnight to 10:30 AM

Applicants who cannot meet these scheduling requirements will not be considered.

Responsibilities

As a Shelter Security Guard, your responsibilities will include:

- Following established shelter and client protocols
- Maintaining a safe, respectful and professional setting
- Screening visitors and controlling access to the shelter
- Ensuring that only approved individuals enter the facility
- Communicating shelter rules and supporting consistent compliance




- Conducting regular patrols inside the shelter and around the property
- Identifying and responding to safety concerns, unusual activity and security incidents
- Using calm and professional communication to help de-escalate challenging situations
- Responding promptly to emergencies and requests for assistance
- Administering first aid within the scope of your certification
- Coordinating with shelter staff, emergency services and other community partners when required
- Monitoring video surveillance equipment when requested by the client
- Helping prevent fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized access
- Completing accurate daily activity reports and incident reports
- Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of shelter clients
- Providing professional and respectful customer service

Requirements

Applicants must have:

- A valid Ontario Security Guard Licence
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification from a Red Cross-approved training organization
- A valid driver’s licence
- Their own vehicle or a reliable method of transportation
- Availability for weekend days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays
- The ability to work scheduled shifts between 8 and 12 hours
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to write clear, detailed and accurate reports
- A calm, professional and respectful approach during stressful situations
- Strong observation skills and attention to detail




- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Empathy and sensitivity toward individuals experiencing homelessness, crisis or other complex circumstances

Previous experience in shelter security, social services, mental health, crisis response, addictions support or de-escalation is considered an asset.
