We are seeking an experienced Senior Enterprise Architect to support a major manufacturing organization in the Chicago area.

The Opportunity The Senior Enterprise Architect will work across business, manufacturing and technology teams to help shape the architecture and transformation of the organization's digital manufacturing and factory technology landscape. The ideal candidate combines strong enterprise architecture fundamentals with practical experience across manufacturing operations, digital factory environments and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

You will help establish the connection between business capabilities, manufacturing processes, applications, data and technology, and translate that understanding into a clear target architecture and transformation roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain business and technology capability models for manufacturing and digital factory domains.
- Assess the current-state manufacturing technology landscape and identify opportunities for modernization, standardization and rationalization.
- Define current-state, transition-state and target-state architectures.

- Business capabilities
- Manufacturing processes
- MES platforms
- Plant and factory systems
- ERP and supply-chain platforms
- Industrial / OT environments




- Data and analytics platforms
- Integration technologies
- Partner with manufacturing, engineering, operations, IT and architecture stakeholders to understand business priorities and technology requirements.
- Support the evolution of the organization's Digital Factory / Industry 4.0 architecture.
- Evaluate the role and positioning of MES and related manufacturing platforms within the enterprise architecture.
- Identify technology duplication, complexity, gaps and opportunities for platform consolidation.
- Define architecture principles, standards and decision frameworks.
- Develop pragmatic transformation roadmaps aligned with business priorities and investment cycles.
- Facilitate architecture workshops and communicate complex technology concepts clearly to both executives and technical teams.
- Support architecture governance and major technology investment decisions.

Required Experience

- Significant experience as an Enterprise Architect, Manufacturing Architect or Senior Solution Architect within a large enterprise environment.
- Strong experience with manufacturing technology and digital factory environments.
- Hands-on architecture experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Experience developing business capability models and capability-based architecture.

Strong understanding of enterprise architecture concepts including:
- Business architecture
- Application architecture
- Data architecture
- Integration architecture
- Technology architecture




- Experience mapping business capabilities and processes to applications and technology platforms.
- Experience developing target-state architectures and multi-year transformation roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing systems integration across ERP, MES, plant systems, data platforms and enterprise applications.
- Ability to work effectively with senior business, manufacturing and technology stakeholders.
- Solid communication, facilitation and executive presentation skills.

Highly Desirable

- Experience within aerospace, aviation, defense or other complex discrete manufacturing environments.
- Experience with large-scale digital manufacturing or Industry 4.0 transformation programs.
- Familiarity with manufacturing technologies such as:
- Siemens Opcenter, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Dassault Systèmes, PTC, SAP manufacturing solutions
- Other major MES / MOM platforms
- Understanding of OT / IT convergence and industrial architecture.
- Experience with Enterprise Architecture platforms such as Ardoq, LeanIX or similar tools.
- Experience with application portfolio rationalization and technology modernization initiatives.

This is a senior, hands-on architecture role requiring someone comfortable moving between executive conversations, architecture modelling and detailed discussions with manufacturing and technology teams.
