Position Summary b>Senior Project Manager, Planning & Redevelopment North York General (NYG) is embarking on the largest redevelopment and expansion in its history. With a new Long-term Care Development and a Recent Patient Care Tower – the first healthcare Alliance project in Ontario – and many other strategic redevelopment priorities, NYG is transforming healthcare delivery for our patients, families and community. As a Senior Project Manager, Facilities and Operations Integration, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the New Patient Care Tower.

The Senior Project
Manager leverages past operational experience to provide oversight and project leadership for facilities, operations and technical integration for the New Patient Care Tower project. Reporting through the Manager, Project Delivery – Facilities Integration, this role will represent NYG’s facilities and building operations team across planning, design, implementation, commissioning and operationalization.

Manager will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of passionate and collaborative professionals, consultants, patients and other stakeholders to ensure the project is successfully delivered.
The Senior Project
Manager must possess a breadth and depth of understanding of the operations of healthcare infrastructure and, building systems such as Fire and Life safety, HVAC, Boilers, Chillers, Electrical Systems etc and associated operational impacts. The role will be the main conduit for NYG’s Facilities and Operations input into technical design workstreams, site investigations, existing building interfaces, lifecycle analysis,
commissioning planning and operational readiness. They must be able to facilitate communication between multiple stakeholders efficiently and effectively.
The Senior Project
Manager coordinates team members including other project managers, stakeholders, operating engineers, internal and external consultants, contractors and vendors. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Provide strategic project leadership and direct the work of project teams (hospital staff, consultants and contractors) through the project lifecycle in accordance with hospital requirements and applicable codes, standards, and legislation.
- Represent NYG facilities and operations requirements in technical and design workstreams, including building systems, site investigations, existing building interfaces, shutdown planning, operational continuity and operational readiness.
- Ensure project deliverables and milestones are achieved, on-budget and on-time, and hold regular communications to review milestones, risks, progress and lessons learned.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and maintain regular communication with steering committees and/or executive sponsors on deliverables, risks and issues.
- Manage scope, budget and schedule, including financial reporting in collaboration with Finance.
- Develop and manage the implementation of change management plans and other strategies that will support project success, including strategies to support operational continuity, facilities readiness, maintenance planning and transition to operations.
- Review and assess project feasibility and provide recommendations on budget, scope and schedule.
- Lead project close out and post-occupancy evaluation, including performance measures and lessons learned, with a focus on commissioning outcomes, deficiencies and facilities readiness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, project management or construction management or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Master’s degree or professional designation in a relevant field is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate is required (or working towards it).
- Experience working in operational role managing building systems and infrastructure in long term care homes, large institutional buildings or preferably in large healthcare facility settings.
- Facilities Management Skilled certification or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience or combined operational/project management experience is required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of project management must be in capital projects.
- Experience in one or more of the following: healthcare building systems planning and design, healthcare engineering design, construction project delivery, regulatory approvals (e.g. Ministry of Health, Municipal Planning, building permits), furniture and equipment planning, or operational readiness and transition planning.
- Strong understanding of applicable legislation, regulations and standards relevant to healthcare infrastructure.
- Ability to apply project management processes, anticipate risks, problem solve and communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to senior management and stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor and influence results through coaching, group facilitation and conflict resolution.
- Understand and communicate technical issues clearly, both verbally and through written communications.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and analyze risks and issues, explore alternatives, develop appropriate recommendations with project team.
- Bilingualism in French/English considered an asset.
