Role overview The Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society is seeking a community-minded contractor to lead two seniors’ housing and well-being initiatives. The first is the Kitchen Table Collective, a resident-led program that helps older adults build connections, access community resources and supports, and age in place. The contractor will work with residents in two participating Sunshine Coast communities to establish local seniors’ hubs based on the naturally occurring retirement community (NORC) model (https://norcinnovationcentre.ca/).
Secondly, the contractor will support targeted outreach and partnership development for a housing initiative serving seniors living on low incomes.
This practical community development role suits someone who enjoys bringing people together, building trust, and turning ideas into manageable next steps.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Table Collective
- Build relationships and prepare a simple engagement plan for developing a resident-led seniors’ hub in each of the two participating communities.
- Help residents form small leadership groups, identify local priorities, and agree on a practical meeting schedule.
- Organize and facilitate welcoming, accessible introductory gatherings, listening sessions, and early community activities.
- Support each group to create an initial 12-week plan for activities and community connection.
- Connect groups with useful community resources and support early activities while gradually transferring coordination to resident leaders.
Seniors housing outreach and partnerships
- Develop and carry out a targeted outreach and engagement plan with housing and community partners.
- Help establish clear referral and participation processes that respect privacy, consent, eligibility requirements, and organizational roles.
- Maintain confidential records and track contacts, follow-up needs, common barriers, and emerging partnership opportunities.
- Refer legal, tenancy, technical, or complex support questions to the appropriate contact.
Coordination and reporting
- Participate in regular check-ins with the Regional Housing Coordinator and coordinate with approved community partners.
- Provide a brief progress note every four weeks and a final report summarizing outcomes, lessons learned, outstanding issues, and recommendations.
Required skills and experience
- Relevant experience in community development, seniors services, housing, outreach, facilitation, volunteer development, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- A demonstrated ability to build trust and facilitate inclusive, resident-led conversations with older adults and diverse community members.
- Strong interpersonal communication, plain-language writing, organization, and independent project management skills.
- Confidence engaging housing and community partners, listening to concerns, and clearly explaining program roles and boundaries.
- Comfort using online forms, web portals, shared documents, spreadsheets, email, and basic promotional tools.
- Sound judgement about privacy, consent, professional boundaries, and when to refer legal, tenancy, health, safety, or support questions.
- Ability to travel to participating communities and attend occasional daytime or early-evening gatherings.
- Knowledge of Sunshine Coast communities and services is an asset.
Contract details
- The fixed fee includes contractor time, preparation, meetings, outreach, follow-up, routine administration, reporting, and use of the contractor's own equipment.
- Reasonable, pre-approved project expenses will be reimbursed at cost with receipts.
- The contractor is responsible for taxes, CPP, insurance, and other independent business obligations. A satisfactory criminal record check will be required before direct engagement with participating seniors begins.
