Sign Fabricator

Position Summary

Signature Sign & Image is seeking an experienced Sign Fabricator with welding experience to join our production team.

Reporting to the Shop Manager, this is a hands-on role focused on the fabrication and assembly of custom signage. The position will also support technical drawings, production coordination, purchasing, receiving, and general shop operations.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, organized, comfortable working from drawings, and enjoys being part of a fast-paced production environment. Previous leadership or coordinator experience is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Production

- Fabricate and assemble a variety of custom signage and related components.
- Work with materials including aluminum, steel, plastics, acrylics, and composite materials.
- Cut, drill, grind, MIG/SMAW Weld (Aluminum & Steel), bend, assemble, and finish aluminum and steel components as required.
- Operate common hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Assist with illuminated signage, LED components, sign cabinets, channel letters, structures, and other custom projects.
- Complete finishing and assembly work to prepare signage for installation.
- Review completed work for quality and accuracy.
- Maintain an organized and safe work area.

Technical & Production Support
- Review drawings and project requirements before fabrication.
- Assist with production drawings, fabrication details, and material planning as required.
- Identify potential fabrication challenges and help develop practical solutions.




- Work with other departments to clarify project requirements and keep work moving through production.
- Provide technical input and suggestions to improve production efficiency.

Shop Coordination & Leadership
- Help coordinate daily production priorities and workflow.
- Provide support and guidance to other production team members as required.
- Assist with training and onboarding.
- Communicate production progress, material needs, and potential delays to the Shop, Service & Install Manager.
- Help maintain quality standards and production timelines.
- Contribute to improvements in shop organization, workflow, and processes.

Purchasing & Receiving
- Assist with purchasing and sourcing materials for production & consumables.
- Coordinate material orders and supplier communication as required.
- Receive and organize incoming materials.
- Help maintain accurate purchasing, receiving, and inventory records.
- Monitor material needs and communicate shortages.

Qualifications

Required

- Previous experience in sign fabrication, metal fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or a related environment.
- Hands-on welding and metal fabrication experience.
- Experience reading and working from technical or shop drawings.
- Comfortable using common fabrication tools and equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred




- Previous sign industry experience.
- Previous leadership, lead hand, supervisor, or coordinator experience.
- Experience with technical drawing or CAD software.
- Experience with purchasing, receiving, or inventory.
- Familiarity with illuminated signage, CNC equipment, or low-voltage electrical components.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an active shop and production environment.
- Ability to safely operate fabrication tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift and move materials and components as required.
- Ability to perform hands-on fabrication work throughout the workday.

Compensation & Benefits

- Hourly Wage: $27–$32/hour, based on experience and qualifications.
