Job Description Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking an associate lawyer who will primarily contribute to labour and employment law matters and who is also interested in developing or further expanding their practice in privacy, data protection and, ideally, cybersecurity.

Employment law will remain the primary focus of the practice.

The successful candidate will join and strengthen a team where employment law matters are currently handled by several experienced partners, while more junior lawyers continue to develop their expertise.

This position addresses the need to add an intermediate level of experience to allow for better delegation of files, while continuing to support the development of lawyers already progressing within the team.

Employment Law Participate in the management of employment law matters, which will represent the primary area of practice for this position.

Advise and support clients on strategic and sensitive matters.

Work on matters involving, among others, senior executives and negotiations related to employment terms, termination packages and total compensation.

Contribute to strategy development, issue analysis and the preparation of required documentation.

Take responsibility for certain matters or specific stages of matters based on their level of autonomy.

Work efficiently while remaining mindful of clients sensitivity to costs and legal fees.

Privacy and Data Protection Contribute to advisory mandates involving privacy and data protection matters.

Assist clients in identifying their obligations and mitigating potential risks.

Participate in the development of this practice area in anticipation of increased litigation, particularly class actions.





Collaborate with members of the litigation team when matters become contentious.

Cybersecurity and Incident Response Depending on their experience, support legal interventions before, during and after cybersecurity incidents.

Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving clients security posture and applying lessons learned from previous incidents.

Collaborate in the medium-term development of a service offering designed to address the needs of entrepreneurs, businesses and, eventually, insurers.

Candidate Profile Member of the Quebec Bar since 2022 or 2023.

Possess relevant, hands-on experience in employment law.

Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken.

Demonstrate sound judgment, strong analytical skills and confidence in handling sensitive matters.

Ability to progress quickly toward greater autonomy.

Interest in developing a versatile practice and ability to work across different practice areas based on client and team needs.

Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with lawyers at various levels of experience.

Experience or demonstrated interest in privacy and data protection.

Recognized certification in privacy or data protection.

Experience in cybersecurity, incident response or in a breach coach role.

Experience advising senior executives or negotiating termination packages and total compensation.

Interest in developing an emerging practice area and understanding the business realities of entrepreneurs and corporations.
