Learning Effective Anti-violence in Families ( LEAF) Group Facilitator

Permanent, Full-Time

1 Position

(Bargaining Unit Position as per Collective Agreement)

Wage: $23.42 Per Hour

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Learning Effective Anti-Violence in Families (LEAF) Group Facilitator will plan and facilitate various therapeutic programs for children who have witnessed family violence, in both group and one-on-one settings. The LEAF Group Facilitator will provide service from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma informed, and intersectional feminist framework, respecting each individual’s self-determination and personal decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide supportive case management in relation to education on women abuse to residents and outreach service users

Plan and facilitate a variety of supportive programs for children who have witnessed family violence, both in a group and one on one setting; early intervention is offered to support children who have experienced harmful effects of witnessing violence

Ensure the overall safety and security of the shelter is maintained

Identify child welfare concerns and comply with Duty to Report obligations in accordance with the Child and Family services Act and good practices in working with women-identified individuals and children around child-welfare concerns. Collaborate with Children's Aid Society/Catholic Children's Aid Society as needed.

Support in the development of a risk assessment and detailed personal safety plan for women-identified individuals and their dependents who have experienced violence and review and update as the service user’s situation changes

Provide supportive programming for service users (residents and outreach) who are supporting dependents who have witnessed abuse

Provide a comprehensive assessment for each individual, and identify goals pertinent to each individual service user

Provide information on resources and referrals to service users, in accordance with their needs and requests

Participate in programming evaluation, when required

Provide follow up to services users for up to three (3) months after completion of the program





Keep systematic records using automated case management software and in-house tools developed by Inasmuch House

Represent the LEAF program in the community through public education and promotion; this will be done in consultation with management and partner agencies

Understand and follow protocols with community partners such as Hamilton Police Services, Children's Aid Society, and the School Board

Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conference meetings

Participate in outreach department meetings and attend monthly LEAF Group Facilitator Meetings

Participate in weekly check in program meetings with management

Work safely and identify and report any health and safety concerns to management, in accordance with Mission Services' Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures

Adhere to a strict confidentiality policy

Understand and adhere to all Mission Services, Inasmuch House, and Shelter Standards policies and procedures

Other duties as required to ensure the continuation of service to participants in the space

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful candidates will hold at minimum a diploma in Child and Youth Work or Early Childhood Education. Preference for a degree in Child and Youth Care, or Social Work degree

Minimum two (2) years of work experience in the field of gender-based violence, child development and mental health, counselling and other social services supporting vulnerable women and children; two to four (2-4) years is preferred

Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of gender-based violence, child abuse and safety, as well as related effects on parenting, mother-child relationships and child development

Minimum one (1) year of experience developing and facilitating social-recreation and therapeutic programming that is age and need appropriate

Demonstrated understanding of working from an intersectional feminist lens





Demonstrated ability to provide person-centered, trauma informed and anti-racist anti oppressive supports to women and children with diverse experiences and identities

Excellent counselling, behaviour management, crisis intervention, organizational and interpersonal skills

Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations

Confident decision maker and enthusiastic team player

Fluency in French is an asset

Committed to upholding the organization’s mission, values and standards

HOURS OF WORK :

Ability to work day, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts, as needed

COMPENSATION:

Hourly wage starts at $23.42

Benefits to start after three (3) months of continuous employment

Group RRSP employer matching up to 3% after one (1) year of continuous employment
