Information and Records Management Consultant
Location:
Remote, Canada
Overview
I am currently looking for an experienced Information and Records Management Consultant to support a large Canadian public sector organization on a 3-year remote opportunity , beginning with an initial 12-month contract .
This role will focus on electronic records management, records lifecycle controls, data governance, metadata management, business analysis, and the implementation of information management solutions using Microsoft enterprise technologies .
The selected consultant will work with business stakeholders and development teams to assess information management requirements, document business needs, perform data mapping and modelling activities, and support the design, testing, implementation, and adoption of records management and AI-enabled information management solutions.
Project Background
The organization is undertaking initiatives to strengthen its information and records management capabilities across programs and business functions.
The consultant will support the development and implementation of solutions addressing:
Electronic records management
Records retention and disposition
Information classification and governance
Data mapping and data integration
Metadata standards and semantic modelling
Data quality and reporting
AI governance and AI-enabled information management
Operational adoption, training, and knowledge transfer
The work will require collaboration with business stakeholders, information management specialists, technical teams, developers, and operational support groups.
Work Location & Conditions
The consultant will:
Perform the work remotely from within Canada
Be based in Canada and legally authorized to work in Canada
Be eligible to obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance
Key Responsibilities
Assess and document records retention, disposition, and information management requirements for assigned programs and business functions
Ensure information management requirements align with organizational policies, regulatory obligations, and operational needs
Analyze business processes and develop detailed business requirements for the implementation of records lifecycle management controls
Support the implementation of records retention, disposition, classification, and governance rules within information management solutions
Contribute to the implementation of AI-enabled information management and AI governance solutions
Collaborate with development teams and business stakeholders to design, develop, validate, test, and implement technology solutions
Support the integration of lifecycle management controls, data quality requirements, and AI governance requirements into implemented solutions
Develop and maintain data maps, data dictionaries, metadata crosswalks, and semantic models
Perform data mapping, analysis, and integration activities between Microsoft Dynamics and other enterprise data sources
Support data modelling, reporting, analytics, and information governance requirements
Develop business and functional documentation to support solution implementation and operational adoption
Deliver knowledge transfer, training, and operational handover activities to business and support teams
Support the ongoing management, maintenance, and adoption of implemented information management solutions
Complete related activities and deliverables, as required
Mandatory Requirements
M1: Location and Work Authorization
The consultant must:
Be based in Canada
Be legally authorized to work in Canada
M2: Security Clearance
The consultant must be eligible to obtain Government of Canada Reliability Status (this requires 5 years in Canada).
M3: Education
The consultant must possess a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
Library and Information Studies
Information Management
Records Management
M4: Information and Records Management Experience
Must demonstrate a minimum of five years of recent work experience in information and records management , with a focus on electronic records management .
M5: Data Mapping, Metadata, and Semantic Modelling
Must demonstrate a minimum of three years of recent work experience developing each of the following :
Data maps
Semantic models
Candidates must clearly demonstrate experience with all four areas in their resumes.
M6: Business Analysis and Technology Implementation
Must demonstrate a minimum of three years of recent experience performing all of the following:
Conducting business analysis activities
Documenting business requirements
Collaborating with development teams
Supporting the design of technology solutions
Supporting solution testing and validation
Supporting the implementation of technology solutions
Must demonstrate proficiency working with:
Microsoft Dynamics
SharePoint
Other enterprise Microsoft technologies
The consultant’s experience must demonstrate the use of these technologies to support one or more of the following:
Information management
Data governance
Reporting
Analytics
M8: Records Lifecycle Management Controls
Must demonstrate the ability to analyze business processes and develop business requirements for the implementation of records lifecycle management controls, including:
Retention
Disposition
Classification
Governance
Experience should demonstrate how these controls were incorporated into information management or enterprise technology solutions.
M9: AI-Enabled Information Management
Must demonstrate the ability to analyze and develop business requirements supporting AI-enabled information management solutions .
Experience involving AI governance, information governance, data quality, or lifecycle controls within AI-enabled technologies will be considered highly relevant.

Qualified candidates will be evaluated based on the strength, relevance, and clarity of the evidence provided in their resumes.
Candidates should ensure that their resumes clearly identify:
The organization or project where the experience was gained
The consultant’s role and responsibilities
The start and end dates of each project
The specific information management activities performed
The technologies and platforms used
The records lifecycle controls implemented
The specific data mapping and metadata deliverables developed
The consultant’s involvement in solution design, development, testing, and implementation
The outcomes or deliverables produced
