Supervisor ensures that the St.

Thomas Thrift

Store is organized, neat and provides service to customers. Responsible for assisting and supervising a team of employees and volunteers to ensure standards in sales, customer service, merchandizing, marketing, and public relations are achieved. Serve the customers in a courteous and efficient manner by listening to and addressing customer concerns, suggestions and complaints and discussing with the Corps Officer as needed.

Ensure accuracy in the completion of all customer transactions.



Supervise as well as participate in sorting and tagging merchandise, unloading donations, stocking shelves, and performing cash transactions. Prepare sales summaries when required; contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.

Inventory control: retrieve, sort, price, and discard or recycle any stale or un-saleable items on an ongoing basis; seek to protect the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring. Assist with the store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays, advising of any recommendations for new racks, shelving, and signage. Oversee and participate in ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of the store is up to standard policy including practicing “Tidy Maintenance.” Supervision In consultation with the Corps Officer, prepare employee/volunteer work schedules; plan coverage for vacation/sick days.

Provide training for new and existing employees and volunteers as requested. Communicate regularly with the Corps Officer to ensure consistent adherence to Ministry Unit Store Policies/Procedures and for support as needed. Assist in the orientation of new employees and volunteers regarding health and safety procedures, Ministry Unit Store Policies/Procedures, etc.





Responsible to report any responsible health and safety infractions or problems in accordance with policies. Work in compliance with OH&S; Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Responsible to ensure that employees and volunteers comply with all safety procedures and by monitoring Health and Safety policies and procedures.

This is a permanent, full-time position based upon 40 hours per week. Shifts will include Saturdays and the occasional weekday, as per operational requirement. Monday to Friday, and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break as necessary.

The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct. Completion of a Community College diploma or equivalent in a related field of study. Have a minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including retail, marketing, and supervisory experience.

Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures i.e., Product brand awareness would be an asset. Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible. Self-directed with superior organizational skills, attention to detail, time management skills, ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities/tasks; the ability to complete assignments and meet competing deadlines with minimal supervision.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
