The General Manager (GM) leads overall business operations and organizational growth for Compass Point Contracting, driving the vision to scale the business across its civil, concrete, demolition, and carpentry sectors. The GM provides executive oversight for business development, estimating, financial management, cross-functional leadership, safety, quality, and recruitment. This role drives project performance by guiding project teams from prospect selection to project close-out, with support from ETRO's Director of Field Operations and ownership.

About the role
The General Manager (GM) leads overall business operations and organizational growth for Compass Point Contracting, driving the vision to scale the business across its civil, concrete, demolition, and carpentry sectors. The GM provides executive oversight for business development, estimating, financial management, cross-functional leadership, safety, quality, and recruitment. This role drives project performance by guiding project teams from opportunity selection to project close-out, with support from ETRO's Director of Field Operations and ownership.

What you'll do
Project Oversight
Strategically select and pursue project opportunities in close collaboration with the Director of Field Operations to ensure alignment with organizational capacity and growth targets.
Provide comprehensive oversight of the full project lifecycle, managing transitions from pre-construction estimation and budget establishment through to successful project close-out.
Lead contract negotiation and administration efforts to safeguard company interests, mitigate legal exposure, and secure favorable commercial terms.
Drive operational excellence by implementing and enforcing standardized project management practices, rigorous project controls, and reporting structures.
Maintain rigorous oversight of project-level financial health, including proactive margin reviews, risk mitigation strategies, and the alignment of progress billings with site performance.
Provide active mentorship and technical support to Estimators, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Superintendents to ensure cross-functional alignment with project objectives.
Strategic Leadership and Organizational Scaling
Develop and execute strategic plans to scale business operations.
Lead company expansion across civil, concrete, demolition, and carpentry divisions.
Develop standards and guides to drive operational excellence.
Architect future organizational structures, and lead recruitment.
P&L; and Financial Management
Own full P&L; accountability, budget forecasting, and corporate financial performance.
Review,
and optimize project margins, equipment investments, and overhead allocation.
Drive cash flow optimization, progress billings oversight, and financial risk mitigation.
Operational Oversight and Field Alignment
Optimize labour, material, and equipment allocation across all active sites.
Establish division-wide KPIs for safety, quality, labour productivity, job profitability, and schedule adherence.
Establish company-wide standards and best practices.
Client Relations and Business Development
Serve as the main contact for key clients, general contractors, and strategic industry partners.
Oversee bidding strategy, preconstruction pursuits, and contract negotiations.
What you bring
Education: Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
Experience: 10+ years in construction leadership, with proven experience scaling trade or general contracting operations.
Technical: Proficient in Procore, CMiC, Bluebeam, Outbuild, and Google Workspace, or other similar software.
Skills: P&L; management, strategic planning, business development, executive leadership, and resource optimization.
Knowledge: Deep business acumen in self-perform civil, concrete, demolition, and carpentry construction scopes.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and written communication skills for executive and client engagement.
