NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

We are currently seeking a Material Handling Technician to work at our St. Clair River Site facility.

Reporting to the Supervisor, SCRS Optimizer, the Material Handling Technician is expected to advance to the top of the progression program. The primary focus of the Material Handling Technicians encompasses secure and reliable operation and maintenance of the facility on a continuous basis. The areas of responsibility include the operation of the rail yard; cleaning of hopper cars for product loading; boxing and packaging; shipping and receiving products; and support of the Polymer Area operations.

You Will Use Your Expertise to:
Rail Yard

Participate in Shift Starters at the beginning of the shift

Receive/Ship and inspect all inbound rail cars

Manage the movement of rails cars on site

Ensure organization and housekeeping of the rail yard

Perform minor rail car maintenance (caps, gaskets, hatches etc.)





Identify and ‘bad order’ hopper cars required for maintenance and enter notifications for repair

Obtain resin samples from rail cars as required

Assist with hopper car preloading inspection, loading and car sealing as well as cleaning of hopper cars

Boxing/Packaging

Build boxes, fill with product, stage and store in warehouse and manage SAP functions

Perform fork-lift truck pre-checks and operate forklift

Unload transport trailers and move product additives using a fork-lift truck

Stage required additives and materials in various locations to meet production requirements

Ensure SAP inventory functions are complete

Monitor and supply feedback to the Raw Materials Coordinator to maintain adequate levels of raw materials

Warehouse

Loading and unloading of vans and containers

Review C of A for raw materials as per ISO requirements

Receiving of materials

Sampling of boxes or railcars (if required)

Inventory adjustments in raw and finished goods

Requisitioning of materials from outside suppliers

SAP paperwork

Keep accurate records in electronic logs

Provide relief for packaging technicians

Polymer Area Operations Support

Change and clean filter screens, including use of the burn out oven

Monitor and top up pump oil levels

Empty solution adsorbers

Use of forklift to move product from Pilot Plant to Warehouse and empty lugger buckets

What We Are Looking For:

A Secondary/High School Diploma or equivalent

Rail/locomotive/Forklift operating experience is an asset

Post-secondary education would be considered an asset

Proficient computer skills including SAP, Microsoft Word and Excel

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Additional Information:

Relocation will NOT be considered for this position

Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience

This role requires no/ad hoc travel

Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons

Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units

Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation

In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator

The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
