GOODWERK CANADA INC.

Tower Crane Operator

Concrete / Structural Precast & High-Rise Erection

Company: Goodwerk Canada Inc.

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Employment Type: hourly - Contract

Compensation: Competitive industry hourly or contract rate (Negotiable based on precast experience)

Project Schedule:

Phase 1 (Nov 2026 – Feb 2027): On-Call / Flexible schedule (Underground & Foundation phase)

Phase 2 (March 2027 – Dec 2028): Full time schedule (12-Story Precast Structural Erection phase)

About the Project and role

Goodwerk Canada Inc. is delivering a new multi-storey precast 12- story building in Saskatoon. Construction begins with the underground and foundation phase through the winter months, followed by the erection of precast concrete panels beginning in spring. It's a significant, structurally driven build, and we're assembling a skilled, safety-focused crew to see it through from the ground up. Experience with Precast panels and Holowcore slab installation will be prioritized.

We're looking for an experienced crane operator to support this project through all its phases. Work begins in November during the underground and foundation phase on an on-call basis, then transitions to a full-time schedule beginning in March as the project moves into the concrete panel erection phase. This is an excellent opportunity for an operator seeking steady, long-term work on a major Saskatoon build.

We're flexible on structure: this role can be filled as a standard employee position or as a contract arrangement invoiced through your own company.

Key Responsibilities

Crane Operation & Structural Precast Erection

- Operate cranes safely and smoothly to lift, move, position, and hold heavy precast concrete elements (wall panels, hollowcore slabs, beams, columns, stairwells) within millimetre tolerances until securely fixed by erection crews.
- Support underground and foundation construction during winter months (shoring, rebar cages, forms, excavating support, concrete buckets).

- Perform precision blind lifts and high-elevation placements utilizing two-way radio communication and designated signalers.
- Manage dynamic loads and monitor boom deflections during long-reach or heavy precast lifts.

Lift Planning, Rigging & Engineering Compliance

- Review, understand, and strictly execute project-engineered lift plans, boom length configurations, outrigger matting specifications, and load chart limits.
- Perform pre-lift meetings with rigging crews to confirm load weights, centers of gravity, rigging tackle capacities, sling angles, and tag line placements.
- Continuously evaluate wind speeds, gusts, and weather conditions, paying special attention to large surface-area precast panels affected by wind sail factors.

Inspections, Maintenance & Documentation

- Conduct daily pre-operational and post-operational inspections of the crane, cables, safety devices, LMI (Load Moment Indicator) systems, and hydraulic components.
- Maintain thorough daily operator logbooks, inspection records, maintenance forms, and hours of service in accordance with Saskatchewan regulations.
- Report any mechanical defects, wear, or safety concerns immediately to site management and equipment technicians.

Safety & Site Leadership

- Ensure strict adherence to Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S;) regulations, CSA Z150 safety standards, and Goodwerk site safety policies.
- Active participation in daily Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA), toolbox safety talks, and site safety audits.
- Maintain complete Stop Work Authority whenever lifting conditions, wind speeds, poor visibility, or site hazards compromise safety.

Qualifications & Requirements Education & Trade Certifications

- Journeyperson Ticket:

Valid Red Seal or Provincial Journeyperson Mobile Crane Operator (or equivalent recognized Hoisting Engineer certification).
- Safety Tickets: Active certifications in:
- Fall Protection / Working at Heights (Current)
- Standard First Aid & CPR (Asset)
- WHMIS 2015

Experience & Technical Skills

- Precast Concrete Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of direct experience hoisting and erecting precast concrete panels and Hollowcore slab installation (High Priority).
- High-Rise / Structural Erection: Proven track record working on multi-storey or mid-to-high-rise construction sites (8+ stories preferred).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of load charts, multi-part line reeving, rigging hardware capacities, and crane setup.

Contractor Requirements (If applying as an Independent Contractor/Company)

- Registered Corporation / Business Entity with active GST number.
- Valid Commercial General Liability (CGL) Insurance (including Crane Operator / Hoisting coverage).
- Active Good Standing Account with Saskatchewan WCB (Workers' Compensation Board).

Preferred Assets

- Prior construction site experience within Saskatoon, SK or Calgary, AB.
- Demonstrated experience operating through Prairie winter conditions (sub-zero hydraulics, snow/ice load considerations, extreme cold operations).
- Experience operating both mobile telescopic/lattice boom cranes and tower cranes.
