Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Utility Operators to join our Civil Division as soon as possible. This role supports the successful completion of civil construction projects, including underground utility installations, earthworks, site development, and excavation activities.
The ideal candidates will have proven experience operating heavy equipment safely and efficiently in a civil construction environment, with strong experience working around underground utilities and active excavations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment required for underground utility and civil construction work, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and other equipment as required.
- Perform trenching, excavating, backfilling, grading, sloping, material handling, and site preparation.
- Safely excavate around existing underground utilities, pipelines, structures, and other infrastructure.
- Support the installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, storm, and related infrastructure.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Work safely and accurately in and around trenches and excavations.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance to ensure equipment is operating safely.
- Work closely with supervisors, pipe crews, labourers,
and other operators to complete work safely and on schedule.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all company and site safety requirements.
- Immediately report equipment issues, utility conflicts, or safety concerns.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Utility Operator in civil construction is required.
- Strong experience with underground utility installation and excavation.
- Experience operating excavators and other civil construction equipment.
- Experience with GPS machine control systems such as Topcon or Trimble is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence required.
- Strong understanding of excavation techniques, trenching, soil conditions, and safe digging practices.
- Experience working safely around underground and overhead utilities.
- Ability to read grades and work accurately to project specifications.
- Robust communication skills and ability to work effectively with utility and civil crews.
- Flexibility to work overtime or shift work as required.
