WELDER

Overview

Welders are primarily responsible for building and welding the wire forms that are used for concrete production. They participate in general housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

Responsibilities





- Interpret welding process specifications
- Operate manual or semi-automatic, full automated welding equipment
- Operate flame-cutting equipment
- Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines
- Fit, braze and torch-straighten metal
- Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment
- Determine weldability of materials
- Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
- Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products
- Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task

Qualifications

Education Required

- High School Diploma or equivalent

Years of Experience

- Minimum 1 year to less than 2 years
- Ability to read blueprints
- Layout forms

Specific Experience

- Reading and interpreting blueprints and plans
- Prior experience in a welding shop is an asset

Competencies

- Maintain high level of safety at all times
- Able to work in a fast paced, high production environment
- Willing to work overtime and shifts when needed including Saturdays
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times, especially when handling stressful situations
- Able to work unsupervised, motivated to complete all tasks
- Able to communicate, and work well with others in a team environment
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Repetitive tasks





Equipment and Machinery Experience

- Butt or seam resistance welding machine
- Arc welding machine, spot welding machine
- Grinders, saws
- Torches

Own Tools/Equipment

- Steel-toed safety boots

Working Conditions

- Wage: $38.36–41.69/hr, based on experience, based on experience (includes 8% vacation, benefits, and pension, as per union contract)
- Unionized, permanent, Full-time, 44 hours/week
