$26.61 - $29.95 (based on experience)

Area of Accountability: The Welding Production Team Leader is accountable for supporting the safe, efficient and effective operation of the assigned welding area. The role coordinates daily production activities, supports Team Member performance and development, ensures compliance with safety and quality requirements, responds to operational issues, and promotes continuous improvement to achieve departmental objectives.

Job Summary : The Welding Production Team Leader provides day-to-day leadership and support within the assigned welding area to ensure safe operations, product quality, productivity and delivery requirements are achieved. The role coordinates Team Member activities, supports standardized work, resolves production issues, develops Team Members and promotes continuous improvement to maintain reliable and efficient manufacturing operations.

Major Responsibilities:

Production Leadership & Coordination

- Coordinate daily production activities within the assigned area to support the safe and efficient operation of welding processes and achievement of production requirements.
- Assign Team Members to workstations and welding cells based on production requirements, staffing plans and operational priorities.
- Adjust Team Member assignments and coordinate manpower within the assigned area to address production issues, staffing challenges and recovery requirements.
- Monitor area performance throughout the shift and provide support to Team Members to ensure production, quality and safety requirements are achieved.
- Act as the primary point of contact for Team Members requiring support related to production, quality, safety, equipment and standardized work concerns.
- Support shift startup activities and communicate production requirements, quality concerns, safety information and operational priorities to Team Members.

Safety & Quality Leadership

- Promote a safe working environment through active participation in safety initiatives and compliance with all company safety policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure required startup checks, RJ checks, quality verification activities and process confirmations are completed in accordance with established standards.
- Verify completion of Team Member startup requirements and conduct audits to confirm compliance with standardized work and startup procedures.
- Support Stop/Call/Wait activities by responding to production abnormalities, initiating appropriate escalation and ensuring issues are properly communicated to support departments.




- Monitor product quality and process adherence within the assigned area and support containment activities when non-conforming product is identified.
- Communicate Quality Alerts and process changes to Team Members and verify understanding through coaching, auditing and follow-up activities.
- Support quality investigations and corrective action activities by providing information, observations and operational support as required.

Training, Coaching & Team Development

- Provide onboarding and area orientation for new Team Members within the assigned zone.
- Train, coach and support Team Members in the application of standardized work, safe work practices and quality requirements.
- Conduct Standard Work Audits to verify process understanding, compliance and readiness for independent operation.
- Identify performance, attendance, behavioral or process concerns and provide timely coaching to support positive performance and development.
- Escalate concerns requiring additional support to the appropriate Group Leader or department.
- Support Team Member development by identifying skill gaps and assisting with training and continuous improvement opportunities.

Auditing & Process Verification

- Conduct required Standard Work Audits, Lockout Audits and other operational audits in accordance with established departmental requirements.
- Monitor compliance with process standards, safety requirements and quality expectations, identifying and correcting deviations as required.
- Review production performance indicators, quality metrics and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Verify implementation and sustainability of corrective actions and standardized work practices.
- Support maintenance of visual management systems, audit records, training records and operational documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving

- Support root cause analysis and problem-solving activities related to safety, quality, delivery and productivity concerns.
- Participate in and support Kaizen activities, Mini Circle projects, Jishuken activities and other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, process stability, efficiency and Team Member engagement.
- Support implementation of process improvements, procedural updates and operational changes within the assigned area.




- Assist in tracking and monitoring improvement activities to ensure expected results are achieved and sustained.

Operational Support

- Provide troubleshooting support for production, process and equipment-related concerns and coordinate escalation to Maintenance, Quality, Engineering or Group Leadership as required.
- Monitor production flow and support recovery activities to address downtime, abnormalities and schedule attainment concerns.
- Provide break relief, lunch coverage or focused production support when operational requirements are necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Manufacturing experience, preferably in an automotive environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching and problem-solving abilities.
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to train, coach and support Team Members in a production environment.
- Ability to interpret and apply standardized work instructions, quality requirements and safety procedures.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement activities and operational problem solving.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Physical & Environmental Working Conditions: This role is based in a manufacturing environment and requires regular presence on the production floor throughout the shift. The Welding Production Team Leader is exposed to noise, welding operations, moving equipment, and industrial conditions typical of an automotive manufacturing facility. The position requires frequent walking and standing, with occasional bending, reaching, stair climbing, and lifting. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn while in production areas.
