Family & Estate Lawyer - 3 to 7 Year Call

Our client, an established and growing law firm located in downtown Vancouver, is seeking a 3 to 7 year call Lawyer to join its practice, with a focus on family and estate law.

Experience in family and/or estate law is preferred; however, our client is also open to lawyers from other practice areas who have a genuine interest in developing their expertise in family and/or estate law.

The ideal candidate will be client-focused and have a strong commitment to providing exceptional service. Our client values collaboration among lawyers and other professionals and takes a long-term approach to client relationships and legal strategy.

The successful candidate will work closely with and receive mentorship from senior counsel. An existing book of business is welcome but not required.

This position is available as either a salaried associate or contract/associate counsel arrangement, depending on the successful candidate's experience and circumstances.

Work Arrangement: Flexible hybrid - combination of in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of legal work, including:

- Meeting with clients, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel, and other professionals.
- Conducting legal research and analyzing legislation, case law, and legal issues.
- Developing effective legal arguments and strategies based on the facts and applicable law.
- Reviewing and analyzing case files and evidence to identify key issues, strengths, risks, and potential arguments.
- Preparing agreements, pleadings, court materials, and other legal documents while ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Assisting senior counsel with negotiations, meetings, case preparation, and overall litigation strategy.
- Preparing for and attending court hearings and other proceedings.




- Managing files and matters independently as experience permits.
- Responding effectively to urgent matters and changing priorities when required.

Qualifications & Experience

- LLB or JD and membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
- 3 to 7 years of post-call legal experience.
- Family and/or estate law experience is considered an asset.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills, including the ability to identify key legal issues, develop persuasive arguments, and anticipate counterarguments.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate legal documents.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Project management skills and the ability to effectively track ongoing matters, tasks, and deadlines.
- A proactive and adaptable approach with a willingness to learn and continue developing professionally.
- An interest in further developing negotiation and mediation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team while also demonstrating initiative and independently managing files and projects.
- A genuine interest in advocacy and appearing in court.
- Ability and willingness to adjust priorities and work additional hours when urgent matters arise.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be determined based on year of call, relevant experience, and whether the successful candidate brings an existing practice. Bonus opportunities and benefits may also be available.
