The Role

The Supervisor, Humane Education is a member of the Humane Education team leading the administration and staffing required to deliver Humane Education programming. This includes overseeing the hiring and supervision of the full-time Humane Educator, Team Lead, Camps & Clubs and part-time Facilitator. Additionally, they will be responsible for the department's customer service including responding to inquiries via phone, email etc., coordinating the booking of programs, and any related administrative duties such as invoicing, payment processing and ordering supplies.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Supervise Staff

- Hire staff to meet program delivery needs.
- Create and maintain the staff training program.
- Provide day-to-day human resources oversight for staff, including scheduling, performance management, onboarding, training, progressive discipline, time and attendance, and staff professional development & coaching.
- Serve as on-call support for program staff as needed for evening/weekend programs.

Oversee Administration & Customer Service

- Coordinate booking of programs, including for external customers, ensuring required space(s) are reserved appropriately for scheduled programs.
- Respond promptly and professionally to phone and email inquiries, re-directing where necessary.
- Order office and program supplies as needed.
- Track results of programs, including attendance, revenues and expenses.
- Create and update records and databases with customer, lead, financial and other data.
- Create and maintain necessary policies, processes and procedures for the department.

Program Delivery

- Lead the delivery of Humane Education programs with the purpose of revenue generation (e.g. camps, birthdays), working with the Humane Educator and Team Lead, Camps & Clubs to develop content for programs as required.




- Oversee the development of educational materials and programming by the Humane Educator and Team Lead, Camps & Clubs, working with the Manager to ensure programs align with the goals of the Humane Education department and organization.
- Support the Humane Educator and Team Lead, Camps & Clubs in the delivery of education-focused programs as necessary, such as attending on- or off-site presentations, hosting tours, and supervising large groups.
- Represent the Edmonton Humane Society as an ambassador at community awareness and other events as appropriate, to increase understanding of the work EHS does and promote Humane Education programs.
- Other duties as required.

Education & Requirements

- Diploma or degree in a related field (education, recreation, business administration, marketing/sales, animal welfare, humane education).
- Minimum 2 years' of experience in administration or customer service, including preferably 1 year of supervisory/leadership experience.
- First Aid, CPR and AED Certification required; Pet First Aid is an asset.
- Security and background clearance check, including vulnerable sector, required.

- Familiarity with office management procedures and basic accounting principles.
- Leadership skills to motivate and create a culture of collaboration that upholds high standards of performance and accountability.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Comfort interacting with large audiences of all ages as part of program and event support.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel with a valid driver's license.
- Experience handling companion animals, including cats, dogs and small animals.
- Experience using a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

The Supervisor, Humane Education role is classified in Pay Band 4, with a pay range of $55428.00–$69310.50 per year, commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience.

Hours of Work

- Standard hours: 40 hours per week; however, this position is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill departmental responsibilities.
- Telecommuting or flexible work arrangements may be available for this role; details will be discussed during the hiring process.
- Flexibility may be required for evenings, weekends or special events.
