The Thousand Islands Boat Museum is seeking an organized, personable and adaptable Visitor Experience & Operations Supervisor to support our visitor programs, seasonal team and year-round administrative operations.
This is a hands-on position with responsibilities that shift throughout the Museum’s operating cycle. During the busy season, the role focuses on visitor services, programs, staff supervision, admissions and café operations. During the off-season, the focus shifts toward donor and membership administration, program planning and preparation for the upcoming season.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working alongside the staff they supervise and stepping into frontline roles when needed, including working behind the café counter.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative support to Museum management.
- Maintain donor, member, visitor and program records.
- Prepare charitable tax receipts and donor/member thank-you correspondence.
- Assist with mailings, program administration and year-end requirements.
- Support social media, program promotion and community communications.
- Help plan and prepare for each operating season.
- Coordinate Museum programs and visitor experiences, including tours, Boat Camp and the River Voices speaker series.
- Recruit, train, schedule and supervise seasonal staff.
- Oversee admissions, kiosk and visitor-service operations.
- Coordinate café staffing, inventory and daily operations.
- Learn and understand all café procedures and regularly work alongside café staff.
- Fill in behind the café counter when required, including preparing and serving food and beverages, processing transactions, restocking and completing opening,
closing and cleaning duties.
- Respond to visitor questions and help resolve concerns.
The Ideal Candidate
- Is highly organized, reliable and detail-oriented.
- Enjoys working with both people and technology.
- Has experience supervising or coordinating staff.
- Is comfortable providing hands-on support and performing the same frontline duties as the employees they supervise.
- Communicates professionally and works well with the public.
- Can manage multiple priorities and adapt when plans change.
- Is comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
- Has strong computer skills and can confidently learn current software.
- Takes pride in accuracy when handling financial, donor and database information.
Previous experience in a café, restaurant, food-service, retail or similar customer-service environment is strongly preferred. Barista experience is an asset.
Experience in museums, tourism, hospitality, visitor services, recreation, administration or a related field is also an asset. Experience with databases, scheduling platforms, point-of-sale systems or customer relationship management software would be beneficial.
Candidates must be available to work weekends, holidays and occasional evenings during the Museum’s operating season.
