Lead Welder / Fabricator - Surrey, BC

Our client is a leading employer in the marine industry, specializing in the construction and customization of high-end vessels. They are known for their commitment to excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship, providing long-term stability and exciting projects for professionals who join their team.

Our client is currently looking for a Welding & Fabrication Team Lead to oversee and execute welding and fabrication tasks for new builds and refits.

Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate, and perform welding and fabrication work for marine current build and refit projects.
- Assess project requirements and determine the best materials, fit-up techniques, weld sequencing, and fabrication methods.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance to welders and fabricators, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to interpret technical drawings and resolve challenges.
- Ensure all work meets industry standards, classification requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
- Inspect fit-ups and completed work for defects, distortion, and adherence to specifications.
- Lead and mentor team members, monitoring productivity, attendance, and performance.
- Maintain compliance with safety policies,



regulatory standards, and WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of welding equipment, tools, and work areas.

Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience in welding and fabrication.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Experience with marine new builds, refits, or vessel fabrication a strong asset.
- Able to assess work requirements, determine technical solutions, and provide credible direction to teams.
- Strong expertise in welding techniques, fabrication processes, fit-up, weld sequencing, and distortion control.
- Experience working with aluminum and steel.
- Leadership experience as a lead hand, foreman, or supervisor is preferred.
- CWB certification or equivalent welding qualifications are an asset.
